The 3rd in the series of the Asus Rampage Extreme has surfaced from the Asus design lair a week ago. I will give you a closer look at the board and what it will be capable of on both air cooling as well as sub zero.

What you get in the box as far as accessories are concerned and some closeups.

Some features that caught my eye:

  • The board has 2 x 8 pin power sockets
  • It has mounting holes for both LGA 1366 and 775 back plates which is new on this series
  • It has an optional NB fan, however it cannot be used in conjunction with the larger air cooler such as a TRUE or Megahalem as it is in the way of the heat sinks fins.

I'm very interested in this board and I'm looking forward to your results... especially high bclk on air.

very nice looking setup, thanks for taking the time to taks pictures and post. I also look forward to seeing some scores.

Bios Version 0402, I do have a later non-official bios version which I will try as well

Sweet...like everyone else I'm looking forward to the results.

You got the really expensive RAM, are they worth the cost?

Does the RAM get in the way of mounting the heatsink in the other orientation? Also, two 120x38mm fans won't fit will they?

The RAM does get in the way of the fan hold-down clip. Actually you cannot use the 1st slot at all as the fan blocks that completely, a real oversight on the design layout, same with the add on NB HSF.

Oh and the RAM is definitely worth it :)

I bet there will be plenty of watercooling users with this board and suspect that there won't be the clearance issue using waterblocks. I've also noticed quite a few 1156 boards out there that have clearance issues with the first slot using big air coolers.

losing the first ram slot is pretty common among 1366 boards, those 2 extra slots have to go somewhere.

That's a very nice board. I like MSI and ASUS boards. That board needs to be made for the 1156 crowd. My bad it does and it's expensive at $349!
