Just curious if anyone knew if the WD20EADS 2TB's were being discontinued by WD?
As i noticed alot over the past month or so on newegg theyve went down in price and have short/limited quantities.
And see theyre pushing the EAR 2TB but hear theyve had some problems being used as system drives and in general with various OS'?

anyone know if thats true or if the EARS have as many issues as people say they are having?

honestly I really liked the EADS versions.

EARS uses the new 4k sector size, aka advanced format. The problem with this is that some old OSes use a partition offset that isn't aligned with it and this causes a huge performance penalty. This is basically the same issue SSDs have.

New OSes don't have a problem with this. It is manly Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 R2, and its derivatives like Home Server, that suffer from this.
