I got a Corsair HX520 from 2007 that is idle for now, and I'm trying to round up the funds for another PC so my i7 can fold 24/7. Ideally the new rig will be:

Intel socket 1156 OC'd (hopefully an i5)
4GB RAM
ATI 5850
1 TB Hard drive
DVD-RW
Cm 690 II basic

I may have to settle for a AMD PII or a i3 depending on how things go.

So will the HX520 be enough or do I need something bigger?

You will be fine with HX520.

I agree with Scott, as long as you're a single GPU, that HX520 will handle any single card like your proposed new rig easily.
