Ok, I have a lan setup. I have 3 computers on the network and I have a D-Link Router. The cable works fine plugged directly into the computer but when I plugg it back into the d-link no internet. I have had this network setup for about a year and it has always worked fine except when the comcast switch took place and they changed to dynamic ip. It has been working up to yesterday and I have no idea what the problem is. I called comcast they said there was an outage. I plugged the cable directly into the computer and saw that it worked so I called back but as we all know they don't troubleshoot routers so they wouldn't help me.
If you have any suggestions I would really appreciate it!!!!!

few questions...
can you share files w/ other computers via the router, still?
does your router have a setup page?
my suggestsions (based on my linksys router, hopefully they're similar) are to reset the router (mine has a button to do this) and re-configure all the settings. also check to see if the WAN lights up when you plug in the cable to the router. lastly, if you're using a different cable, use the same cable that you used to connect your pc to your cable modem.
good luck!

yup my ip changed once and I had to reset the router (linksys) for it to work.
it might work after you unplug it and plug it back in too, but I never tryed this method
on my router there is a little hole you have to stick a pin in for it to reset. Anyways hope this helps

I'm not sure with the d-link, or your cable company but:
I'm on dhcp, and when cable connected me up, they used the nic in one of my pcs: I am now identified by the mac address built into that nic.
To get my router (Linksys) to work, I had to set it up to use the mac address that is registered with my isp.
Sounds like you have the same situation there, methinks.

small point...DO NOT unplug the CM from one device and then immediately plug it into another. CMs have a memory that learns the MAC ID of the device it is connected to. You have to leave it disconnected for a few mintes so that the CM can 'forget' the previous MAC ID otherwise it will get very confused and will not give you connectivity.

Well I think Releasing the IP's might work. The problem is I don;t have it setup with Obtain IP adress automatically and when I try to relase nothing happens. I have a lan ip adress for each comp and then the gateway EX. My router gateway is 192.168.0.1 one pc is 192.168.0.2 etc... I'm pretty sure I need to release or something related because my friend had the exact same problem but he is setup with obtain ip auto and releasing the ip worked for him.Can someone help me out? If not I'll reset the router.

if the ip did change you will have to use the Obtain IP adress automatically or you can maybe call you cable provider and see what your new ip is
but why wouldnt you have Obtain IP adress automatically on sense cable ip change?
but if that is the case you wouldnt be able to connect to the internet without the router either
