Right now im running 4 hard wired cameras to a DVR. But im moving and ill be building a new system for my new house. I am considering going with wireless so i can hide the DVR somewhere and no trace of cables. But i dont not believe (correct me if im wrong) that wireless cameras broadcast in un-encrypted signals and anyone can detect them with the proper equipment.
Is this true? How can you encrypt or protect your signals?

Look for a wireless camera that supports a strong wireless encryption protocol, such as WPA. That's just about the only thing you can do.
The other exploit wireless cameras are prone to is jamming. Someone prepared enough could easily figure out the bands your cameras operate on and jam them, preventing them from recording anything.
If your a good bit serious about your security, stay wired. Wired cameras also cost less.
