View Full Version : Unlocked 1700+, but can no longer raise Bus?
This seems really strange. I was getting 150 mhz fsb no problem before I unlocked. Now if I up the Multiplier to 12, I can't get the system to boot into windows if I up the FSB. I have raised the core to 1.85. Ram to 2.80.
Confused?

In theory you should be able to get the FSB to 137-138. 11x150=1650 so 12x137=1644. You should be able to get that. Are you saying you can't up the FSB any over 133? Can you get lower multi's?
ya, you have to remember that when you raise the multiplier you are probably going to have to lower the FSB becase the speed of the cpu = (FSB x Multiplier) so if you raise the multiplier it increses the cpu speed. if you raise the mult by .5 it will raise your clock 75Mhz (because your old bus is 150). That is a lot to raise at one time and it is unlikly that your already greatly overclocked cpu can take another 75Mhz, at least without upping the voltage.
Good luck

I have a XP1700 as well. It is also unlocked. Take a calculator and begin at multiplier of 10 x 140 = 1400 mhz. 11 x 140= 1540mhz.
12 x 140= 1680mhz. You can guess pretty close what you will get by doing this. The lower the multiplier the better the oc will go. I have been able to get 1638 mhz but I have water cooling. Temps are a big factor in OCing these chips. Find a time when you can sit and jsut reboot your system and keep raising the x'er and FSB. I started at 10 and went up each FSB till lock. Then wrote it down. Move to 10.5 and go up till lock. You will find the top mhz with this method.
good luck

be carfull when doing this, that's the way i tried first and ended up with corrupted data on the hard drive and actually ended up having to repartition my entire disk (erasing all three of my partitions and all the data) before i could load an o/s.
i found it much safer to find my highest safe fsb (for me was 150 before usb problems and 154-55 before hdd problems) refigured for the same clock speed at fsb of 135-40 and slowly climbed back to 148 with each higher multi till i found my chips top speed, currently 1700. then picked a multi where i could get that speed with the fsb i wanted (148) took me quite a while and a lot of notes but i'm sure i know what my chip can do at current voltage and what fsb my system will remain stable at.

what voltage do you have your XP set at to get to the 1700 mhz. also what multiplier and what FSB do you have it set to.
thanks
