I'm trying to focus the transmission signal in a particular direction using aluminum foil. Now based on theory it should just reflect the signal in the direction that the metallic barrier isn't on, but when I'm testing this to see if I completely lose my wifi signal it's not happening. I'm still connected to my router, and the antenna gain seems to be nonexistent.
Now using a half-assed drawing of what the layout of the house PCs are like. The router is red, the aluminum foil barrier is the pinkish, and the brown boxes are the PCs.
Based on the position of the foil, it should be only transmitting towards the East correct? And yes I already know I could put the router in the center room, but that's not the question. :P
I'm using a Trendnet tew-652brp if it matters. Dual antennas.

How exactly are you trying to accomplish this? Some kind of DIY parabolic dish?
I don't think you can actually kill it completely, the signal will be reflected off other objects just like it is reflected off the foil.

I was discussing this with a classmate, and apparently that is most likely the case since I'm a schmuck who completely forgot the leggings to the desk it's under is made of metal. :chair:

Pretty much. Aluminum foil in a parabolic shape to focus the signal in a particular direction. Except I'm a dope who completely missed the part where it would reflect off the metallic table legs.. :)
Wanted to test this out since I've been studying antennas in my microwave class the past few weeks, but my little home project doesn't appear to work since there's metal all over the joint. :S
Not only does it need to be parabolic, but it needs to be the right dimensions and distance from the antennae so that the signals going in the desired direction are in phase. Otherwise they can be out of phase and cancel out.
