View Full Version : Celeron 800@960.......
Ya'll be nice ,I'm another newbe.I've been studying the site for about six months now. This is my first post,I'm a 50yr.old,retired electrician and I just built my first box.I'm glad to see some other folks talking about Giga-byte mobos,I'm running a 6VTXE,It seemed to be a good choice for what I have to play with. I've got this 800 cellery chip on it ,7500 Raideon ,Santa Cruz sound card,Teac cd-w524e burner. I've just been useing the EasyTune to bump it up a little for games. Is anybody else out ther useing this utility? MyPC100 ram is limiting the speed right now but I;m fixing to replace it with some 133,and later on I thought about going to a1.2 or 1.3 cellery after what I've been reading I guess I'm gona have to find out about seting the voltage . What do I need to start reading? If ya'll are wondering about the rutro nickname,I've said it more than once after sparks and smoke and such.
Welcome to the forums, rutro...your reading what you need to be reading right now. Just do a search for topics dealing with voltage, and you should have more than enough to read...glad to have you aboard!
PS...I fiddled with the EasyTune III a few times...but it locked my machine up more than it worked...you'd be better off doing it yourself, a whole lot funner that way! :)

Can you increase the speed on you memory in your bios. If your motherboard supports 100 and 133 memory speed then you can speed it up to 133.

According to my manual it supports 100 and 133 bus speed
but doesnīt it effect the memory if i tune up the speed from
100 to 133 ??
I donīt wanna fry them :)
Welcome to the forums. If your PC100 can hold up it should do 124 :p

It won't do it.Every time I try to go 124 it hangs like a big dog, thats why I think I need to go to 133,then with the voltage mod perhaps,I can get it over on the + side of 1GHz.And I sure would appreciate all the help I can get.

most pc 100 should do 133MHz, try setting it to cas3 my pc100 did 150 plus at cas3 but wouldnt go much above 100 at cas2
Iīve been running my 800@960 for a couple of days now :)
When do i know if the system is stabil? it hasnīt crashed yet
and i use an orb-fan on the cpu and i also have a whisper-fan inside the chassi so its pretty cool inside!!
Is there any programs that keep track of the cpu
temperature??
Thanks for the help guys :)
Use Motherboard Monitor to determine the temperatures.
As for the ram, is it a generic type ram? If it is, that's probably why it won't do the 124 fsb you like it to do :D Perhaps you should look on Ebay and try to find some PC 133 ram.

I just bought some PC-133 RAM :D
Sold off some old computerstuff and now i have 256 PC-133!!
Thanks again!!
Good buy. Cas2 timings rocks!
That's what I'm fixing to do,sell the old stuff, and get some PC 133,probably a 512MB stick since this board is good for 1.5GB. Is anybody else still playing with EasyTune? I know it's got to be more fun to DIY,but the ET3 is so convenient what the heck?:burn: How about Nikkei, what kind of mobo are you running?

My mobo is a FIC KA-6110
It doesnīt support AGPx4 so iīll be
buying another mobo soon !!
Maybe this isnīt the place to ask this but
how much difference does 4x AGP do
compared to 2X ??

Not much and could prevent getting to those higher fsb speeds. If your looking for a 512 stick of pc 133 that will do cas 2 you could try here memorysuppliers.com. Their pc 150 will do 133 cas 2 problem. it helped to get my 800 cel to1.2
Cool, I will certainly check that out,and I appreciate the info. What kind of mobo are you running ?The reason I ask is just plain old curosity. When I started this project I was trying to make sure everything was compatable hardware wise and with XP.One of the things that sold me on this GigaByte mobo was the EasyTune OC software,I've got to share this machine with my better half and her Ol'Sol ect.ect...... so with ET I can bump it up and play without haveing to worry if it will boot, once you find out what speed it hangs at you can check for stability and you know your limits. But I didn't realize the bios didn't offer any other way to change settings,so I'm already thinking about a new box !!! and what to put in it,don't ya see.

using an abit vh62 with 900 megs of ram on xp pro default voltage great chip cdo specs. So the gigabyte uses software to up the fsb to make fsb changes is that what you mean easytune does. Never used it myself, is it a lot like soft fsb.does your board allow for fsb changes in bios? Always curious about motherboard bios capabilities. I want to upgrade to a tualitan and was streering at the slovteck cause it had 1/5 dividers but I would prefer to make all changes in bios and eliminate the second boot if voltage has to change as well. What are the voltage capabilites of your board and what about the dividers. Alot of people are into the intel version but I have never had a problem with via and with xp its been very stable. Like to know if its o/c is on par with its intel twin.
Yes,it's all software adjusted, automaticly, which I haven't made up my mind about. In other words,no changes in the bios.Every thing is done by the software and voltage is automaticly set and regulated. The dividers are set in the software, this being my first overclocking project, and I don't know if I like it or not,not haveing anything to judge it by. It is pretty much idiot proof no doubt, but I thought the bios would have the option of softbios adjustments also, not.Unless I'm missing something all options are in the EasyTuneIII software, you can either auto-optimize or adjust the FSB up manualy and the dividers are set by the program. Once you find the maximum settings that your system is stable at it can be saved to boot at those settings. If the PC 150 RAM got you to 1.2 I might just go with that and see what happens. That Tualatin is definatly on the list to.
