Thanks. I saw that review in WP, I'll give it a look over after work.

It's vaguely familiar...lol. I'll send him a PM after work to see if he'll be interested.
Oh, and thanks for "claiming" me :D

Don't get too comfortable, I like giving people away too. :)
MattNo5ss
05-13-10, 05:49 PM
I looked over splat's article, and there are a few punctuation errors and typos that could be fixed. Is there a way to edit and save the article while it's in "pending review" status?
I PM'd ehume about his fan testing.
I PM'd ghost_recon88 about continuing as a correspondent.
I talked to Jolly-Swagman and he said he will be getting 2 CoolIT Vantage Cooling Systems in June and he'll be reviewing them. I think those are WC units, but I told him he could contact me about it since there's not a WC CE right now.
MattNo5ss
05-13-10, 06:08 PM
Jolly-Swagman agreed to continue being a correspondent.
Also, I've been thinking about how to incorporate project logs into frontpage content. Since logs are usually very long with many pics, I was thinking about maybe summaries with a couple of pics and a link to the project log. Then, every so often post an update of the log. This could be done individually per project or grouped together in a "This <week/month> in Modding" type post.
Any thoughts?
I.M.O.G.
05-13-10, 06:23 PM
I like the grouped idea a lot, I think there is room for that as well as summaries as modders want to put them together and link to their project logs.
I.M.O.G.
05-13-10, 06:25 PM
Clicknig submit for review again will save any changes. :)
Thanks for the WC thing too, nice work!
MattNo5ss
05-13-10, 09:23 PM
I've contacted 3 people about possible summaries of their projects. We could then use these summaries as individual articles or group them into one.
I.M.O.G.
05-17-10, 12:16 PM
Great, looking forward to seeing more modding stuff on the frontpage.
MattNo5ss
05-17-10, 10:10 PM
I've gotten bites from 2 of the 3 people so far. I sent them a PM describing what I had in mind for a summary, and I told them to let me know when they're ready to start drafts so I can get in touch with the editors about setting them up on WP.
So, I'm crossing my fingers...
MattNo5ss
05-17-10, 10:12 PM
I got a PM back from ehume about his fan testing, and he seems interested. Just waiting for him to send me a PM back about getting him set up in WP.

great news, thanks for the update! Let me know and I'll get that account created.

Oops, it wasn't tims it was cooling fluid skinnee was working on:
http://www.overclockers.com/forums/showthread.php?p=6495116#post6495116
Haven't really talked to him about it, but it would be good to possibly mention with a summary and link to his work once he's done: http://www.skinneelabs.com/
Probably more a watercooling job, but I don't think we have a water CE right now really.

sno.lcn, I opened up your draft to check it out, but there was nothing in it...Do you want to copy the last revision into the post and make sure everything is how you wanted it?
I.M.O.G.
05-18-10, 04:57 PM
Matt, I restored an earlier revision, check it out and see how it looks.
Post restored to revision from 18 May, 2010 @ 17:48

05-18-10, 05:39 PM
Thanks. I looked over it, and it everything seems good. Maybe consolidate the pics a little, any thoughts? After a decision is made on the pics, then "submit for review." :D

I have two articles in the pipeline that could be started on as soon as this weekend.
IMOG, could you set Sneaky (http://www.overclockers.com/forums/member.php?u=53161) up in WP?
I.M.O.G.
05-18-10, 06:43 PM
Setting him up now, forgot to tell you to also ask for their preferred email address - that is what their password goes to when I setup the wordpress account. Not a problem tho, but now you know!
MattNo5ss
05-18-10, 06:51 PM
Thanks, I'll remember to ask next time. I assumed it went to whatever email they registered with.
I.M.O.G.
05-18-10, 06:55 PM
Yaa I try to ask usually because some people use spam accounts for the forum registration. Asking makes sure we have a good address so they get notifications when their article is editted, commented on, or published. He's got his ISP address on file though, so I'm sure its a good one. And YHPM so now you know the latest instructions a new author gets too. :)
Thanks for getting such a quick start. :)
I.M.O.G.
05-18-10, 06:59 PM
Looks like there may be some problems with the images and captions, they can be kinda touchy - if you edit them in html view, they get all wonky. You have to remove the images, and reinsert them, changing anything you want to change before you hit the insert again.
I'll get the images straightened up in just a minute. :)
I.M.O.G.
05-18-10, 07:39 PM

05-22-10, 12:30 AM
I heard back from skinnee, and it seems like he's on board with the WC fluid testing. He just hasn't decided how he wants to present it.
This thread is looking more like non-extreme cooling, than air cooling...lol. Two air cooling and three WC cooling articles.

Just noticed EarthDog has a case review in draft status. I PMed him and it should be finished early next week.

05-27-10, 10:55 PM
Thanks. Are you having problems inserting images?
I could copy the image from the thread and insert it in the article if you need me to.
EDIT: I'm doing some grammar corrections now. What's up with the seemingly random capitalization? Any reason for it to be there?
Jolly-Swagman
05-27-10, 11:04 PM

Yes thanks MattNo5ss, for some reason wont let me insert images , I uploaded the Image ok to Media library, I have marked with Red text where needs to go, Thanks
MattNo5ss
05-27-10, 11:26 PM
I got the picture inserted.
You mention a "More Info Link" in the "More Bonus Points" section, where is that link at? Am I just missing it?
I removed some of that capitalization I mentioned above; although, I left all of the terms that you defined capitalized.
I.M.O.G.
05-28-10, 09:53 AM
Thanks for working on this Matt. :) Once its ready, put it in pending review and we'll get it published.
MattNo5ss
05-28-10, 05:56 PM
No problem. I've done 3 passes for grammar/punctuation/etc., but some fresh eyes would be great.

05-28-10, 08:03 PM
Thanks Matt - if you think a proofreader may be able to help, you can contact mage_x or wonderingsoul and ask them to take a look too. Not sure of our availability this weekend, but may be until next week before we get this up.
EarthDog
05-28-10, 11:03 PM
Ok big MattNo5ss.. you are up!! I wont be able to make any edits on this until Monday in all likelihood as I am out of town (ohio!). But I will be checking in throughout.
MattNo5ss
05-29-10, 02:12 AM
Looks good. I went through it to proofread and fixed some typos and a few cases of dyslexia :D Also, I changed the link to reflect what the article is about rather than just "case review." It looks like it may be ready for review already, but I'll wait until you get back on Monday in case you need or want to make last minute changes.
EDIT: It may just be my style, but I think the specs, manufacturer description, etc. should come before any opinions by an author.
MattNo5ss
05-29-10, 05:04 PM
Updated Sneaky's "Estimated Start Time." He said that he should be able to get started this weekend.
MattNo5ss
05-29-10, 05:09 PM
I inserted the images for ehume's article, so he should be able to finish up now.
MattNo5ss
05-30-10, 01:16 PM
EarthDog's case review has been pushed to "pending review."
I.M.O.G.
05-31-10, 12:19 PM
Great matt, did you hear about the fix for this issue? It's specific to the article - if you copy everything from the HTML view and paste it into a new article/post, that will fix the problem for ehume or anyone else having problems with the image insert button appearing!
MattNo5ss
05-31-10, 01:48 PM
Nope, I didn't hear about the fix, but I'll keep it in mind in case someone else has that problem. I just inserted them from the media library, ehume was able to upload them.
I think he clicked the submit for review button, so I'll need it changed back to draft when someone has time.

We probably need to get Jolly's CMSII - 2010 announcement out as soon as possible, before all of the spots are filled for the competition. There are a couple of comments in WP that David and I made about possibly shortening it up.
Looks great guys. Thanks for all your effort!
You put the most effort into it. Good job!
I.M.O.G.
06-01-10, 12:14 PM
We've been talking about it today, it will be up soon. :) Thanks for the note - urgency is something we depend on you guys for, but I think we were already ahead of the game on this one for once. :)
MattNo5ss
06-01-10, 01:05 PM
That was quick :D Thanks!
Also, Navig is back working on his ExoFrame article, and said he would be glad to work on one about his DIY bench when he's finished.

Skinee said he's currently working on a GTX480 waterblock round-up, but after that he'll start on the WC fluid testing. Estimated to start the testing on June 21st and have the article completed on July 10th or 11th.
Would you guys be interested in a frontpage Intro and link to Skinee Labs for the GTX480 waterblock round-up?
Also, after class, I'm going to talk to Archer about his case temps article once I read what he already has finished.
I.M.O.G.
06-02-10, 03:34 PM
Absolutely. I've read Skinnee's stuff and talked to him in PM in the past, he does the sort of work that there really isn't any comparison to.
Jolly-Swagman
06-02-10, 11:12 PM
I,m working on The Sled article, and still cannot attach pictures to Post, also all that I did last night disapeared from the Draft only the Header Title is in Draft :bang head
Still getting you dont have permissions error when uploading pics, worked for a couple then it stopped and now all the buttons for upload media gone
Maybe I will just do a cut down introduction / prologue with a few Video links of The Sled - Acrylic Tech Bench making , and point to the Worklog thread for the whole Reading material/pictures ect
I.M.O.G.
06-02-10, 11:59 PM
Jolly - to fix the problem with attaching images:
Click on the html tab, copy everything, start a new post, paste everything in. Fixed.
The problem with adding images is specific to the article you have started - once you start a new one, you'll be able to add things no problem.
Let me know how it goes.

I.M.O.G. & MattNo5ss
I have done The Sled Draft, and followed the advice given for fix to insert images,
but as soon as I did the first image got the you don't have permissions box and cant insert any more images. and buttons disappeared.
I had a read in Help Trouble Shooting and read that sometimes this can be a permissions issue and the Folder where the Images get stored needs to be Chmod 777 so as you have full permissions again.
Maybe this has happened after the site upgrade
I.M.O.G.
06-03-10, 08:15 PM
Maybe permissions aren't inheriting correctly I suppose, but that doesn't make much sense because a lot of people are able to add images without issue. That said, I don't have a better answer - I'll send some emails and see whats up.
SORRY FOR THE TROUBLE!
MattNo5ss
06-03-10, 08:24 PM
If nothing else, you can send the pics to me and put a placeholder <image01> in the article for each image you send and make the "image01" be the name of the pictures so I put them in the right place.
MattNo5ss
06-03-10, 08:29 PM
ehume's article is getting close to finished. Maybe go more in detail with the results, if possible. Should we leave his huge list of fan specs in the article or just link to it externally, like a google document or spreadsheet?
Jolly-Swagman
06-04-10, 10:10 PM
I have finished The Sled Draft except for adding the pics, one went in then it stopped working,
Matt have you got and Email Address to send you file, it is 16-17MB Folder.
or will I post up on a File share, or something similar!
I.M.O.G - - Here is what I was reading about WP file permissions,
http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_File_Permissions
EDIT- Have Uploaded File Foldder (TSATB-WP -Images.rar) to MediaFire
Download Link - http://www.mediafire.com/?2yzny2yin2y

Just saw your update jolly - inet is aware of the problem and they are the only ones with filesystem access to set permissions. But thank you for the link, if it might help them get around to fixing this that would be great.
I.M.O.G.
06-07-10, 12:42 AM
Sorry, are you still looking for input on that or did you get an answer yet?
MattNo5ss
06-07-10, 01:31 AM
No answer/suggestions yet. I gave ehume ideas about possible additions to the results section.
I.M.O.G.

Update:
- Jolly's article is almost ready for review. This weekend, I'm going to consolidate some of the pics by putting them in side-by-side configurations, and see how much that reduces the scroll length. Also, Jolly said he has a couple more projects that he could write something up about too.
- I PMed Sneaky for an update.
- I looked through Dooms101's modding article in pending review and made a few proofreading edits. Also, just wondering who has been working on this, I didn't even notice it in draft status...

Working very well...but Prolimateh sent me the new Samuel 17 cooler for the CPU, so I'll be doing a short write-up on the build.
I'll try to have it ready next week. I may also get a new ITX mobo from Gigabyte which could delay the review by a week or so.

Jolly, I worked on your article a bit today as well. Content-wise it's awesome! Just needed to do a few minor formatting changes as we are trying to be consistent in style and look for all articles on the homepage. Love the pictures and the final product. It's great!
Also, Matt, awesome job on the editing. Not just this article, but a bunch of them, keep up the good work.

Thanks.
I think I finished up reinserting ~100 photos to add captions, so they would stick and not mess up the alignments. Some of the photos I feel don't need captions, and they just have a heading that describes them all. I also consolidated the ones I thought needed it.
I have gotten most of my part of the formatting and editing done; I'll probably go through it at least once more.
I've been having trouble getting captions and alignment to save correctly on multiple articles, so be sure to check all of the photos before publishing.

+1 to summaries with a link to the log :D
Below is my post from the Content Editor Roll Call (http://www.overclockers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=646431), could I get some input on my "Challenges" section?
Here.
Reminds me of middle school
Unfortunately, I can't handle any more CE workload at this time. I have work typically until 3pm and then class from 5-10pm on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. So, my 2 areas are keeping me busy when I have time, usually on Thursday-Sunday.
Challenges:
- Getting modding content out quickly.
I've been wanting to do some "This <Week/Month/etc.> in Modding" type articles, but I think I've been going about it the wrong way. My error was in asking the modders to write the summaries of their ongoing or finished projects, and since they are working on the projects they don't have time to write up small summaries. So, that's slowing it down.
Now I'm thinking the best route to take on that is to write the summaries myself, so we can get more modding content out there (and there's always good modding going on). I would try to get an "okay" from the modder before publishing that content, but if the modder fails to respond in a timely manner, is it still okay to publish a summary of his work?
EDIT: Oh yeah, "Thanks!" to whoever did most of the work on Dooms101's DVD Drive Window Mod article, I didn't even notice it existed until I saw it in pending. I was able to make a couple of proofreading passes though.
I.M.O.G.
06-21-10, 11:03 AM
Still ok to publish if we are just linking to his stuff thats already in the project log, but its good to ask a courtesy ahead of time in case they want the project to get to a certain point before sharing it.

Yeah, there are problems with pictures in your two drafts as well. The main problem I'm seeing is that the captions will not "stick." The captions just turn into text below the pic without being inside of the "frame" once the draft is saved.

Ya'll be gentle with me; I was a virgin with Wordpress with that review. :D
Matt, I like the way you rearranged the pictures. It makes things look much neater. But the review title got FUBAR with the resizing. Also, I noticed 1-2 picture captions are differently sized on the comment fonts; shouldn't the comments all be done with the same font size? I might have done that by accident when I input them, but if I did it was unintentional.
I would like to get this finished very soon and go live with it ASAP too. I need to link a live review to Redbeard (Corsair rep) so he can pass it along to their proper department for review items. I would love to test both their H70 and their high end air solution, the A70 heatsink.

I wonder if all the picture issues I've been having since I became a CE have just been something on my end. This kind of stuff happens in every article I get. I just have no clue what it could be. I'm using the same browser as you...

I don't know, Matt. I had that problem on FF on my main system at the house, which is why I loaded so damn many different copies of the ven-x with the beast mounted on it. Have you tried with internet exploder? Or chrome?
EDIT: I just checked it with IE and the friggen pic is busted. :bang head
Let me see if I have another pic of it on my work laptop that I can try to upload.
EDIT 2: Matt, see if you can sub this attached pic in for that one and see if it will work.

Writers tend to bypass CE's sometimes (not intentionally, just maybe forgot or didnt know)...we are told to look here for articles and such. If writers post it here (if it comes from a different source than the CE) CE's catch it. The other issue that isnt really an issue is the authors moving it to pending status. Thats a CE's job. But since we can still save it, its not too big of a deal for us. Maybe you Editors for timelines, but........

The heatsink imrov article was going to feature the Venomous X I have installed on a 8800GTX. So if I combine them, then the title could be tricky since I want people to know the MK-13 can work on a GTX 460 since there aren't any aftermarket coolers for it, but I also want people to see that you can install a high-end CPU heatsink on a GPU.
I might see if I can come up with other random heatsink/component combos to add to the improv article if it was going to be separate. Off the top of my head, maybe install vRAM heatsinks on bare RAM sticks, or some other stuff like that.

I'll definitely check it out. I'd like to try to stay away from entire project logs on the front page. Not only is it redundant, but they are usually HUGE and the scrolling could cause carpal tunnel syndrome...
I'd like to do something like my "A Work in Progress: Project Mars" draft for project logs, the length of the "intros" would depend on how far along the project is when published. Then, when the project is completed, another short follow-up could be published. I'm open to thoughts on this, and check out my draft and let me know if I'm going in the right direction.

Hey Matt,
I already looked over Mudd's article. Would love to get your thoughts on it.
Sent him a PM, but forgot to CC you:
Nice work. I had two minor suggestions/ideas for you. Maybe we can condense the description of the box slightly? I love the detail, but the attention span of our readers is rather short 3-5 minutes per article (based on our stats), so we want to cut out any extraneous information. I didn't want to do that without asking or giving you a chance to do it.
Also, the conclusions and Pros/Cons bullets are also pretty similar. Is there a way to condense things a bit there as well? I realize its important to mention your favorites features in paragraph form, but I think we can make it more concise.
Other than that, pretty flawless haha. I have yet to work on the captions at all, I may tweak slightly, but the article itself is in it's final form basically. Would love to get this published tomorrow, if you are cool with that.
What are your thoughts? Hopefully we can turn this around for tomorrow morning. Thanks for your help and input as always. If you can play with the captions as well, that would be good. I didn't get to them.

I looked over mudd's article and fixed some grammar errors and wording. I didn't have to change much at all, good job! Also, when I save another author's draft, the categories are reset to "uncategorized," it doesn't happen on my own articles. So, that will need fixing after every save I do, but I'll be sure to mention it every time I save.
@ mudd and other writers,
For future reference of this common grammatical mistake:
it's = contraction for "it is"
its = possessive form of "it"

The box details are in the captions, which is better than having it written out in a paragraph, imo. If all the details are in the captions, then the readers probably won't pay a whole lot of attention to it, but those details will be there if they are interested.
What do you want out of the captions? Do you want them shortened and the info written out in the body? If so, then I agree to scrap most of the box details written in the descriptions. I don't really have a problem with more info in captions, although I like short and concise captions myself.
What I would do about the conclusion/bullets is just delete the "Conclusion" section altogether and replace the "Summary" heading with "Conclusion."

Captions really should be short and concise. I think Mudd already went over the things I mentioned pretty closely. At this point, it's just a matter of us fine tuning everything.
Leave the bullets alone, I think it's okay to repeat a bit, but not every last detail should be repeated. I'll take a look in the morning before I publish. I think Mudd also said he'd look tonight, so I was going to see what you guys come up with before I mess with anything.

Alright, I wasn't planning on removing the bullets or any of the summary section, just removing the short conclusion section which is redundant to the summary section, and then rename the summary section to conclusion. I'll let mudd make his changes before I do anything further.

10-25-10, 09:02 PM
I've already made the changes I wanted, so do your damage. ;)
I cut down the captions a bit. For future reference, you can avoid "This is..." or "Here is ..."
You can feel free to jump right into what the image shows. It keeps everything short since we all have the attention span of a goldfish! Especially me.
:)
Look's great! Matt, are we cool to publish tomorrow? If so, I'll get it out first thing in the morning.

If you're going to keep the summary/conclusion how it is, then I only have one other thing to mention. In the following quote, mudd mentions the initial runs were done with the pre-applied TIM and that it would make a good TIM comparison, but I don't see any mention of how well the stock TIM worked -vs- MX-2.
The initial mount runs were made with the pre-applied TIM that this unit came with. For the other two remounts, Arctic Cooling MX2 thermal paste was used for testing as I have found it to give good consistent results with no appreciable break in and it applies and is cleaned up easily. This also gave me a good baseline to see how effective the pre-applied TIM was compared to a known good performance thermal paste.
muddocktor
10-26-10, 12:49 AM
Good catch, Matt. The pre-applied stuff worked as well as the MX2.
EDIT: Adding a sentence after that one indicating the pre-applied TIM was at least as good as MX2.
I.M.O.G.
10-26-10, 12:57 AM
Be careful with the wording there. When talking about differences in TIMs, the error involved with measurement equipment and mount quality is often larger than the actual performance difference between tims. This testing isn't really well prepared to make a statement on TIM performance, it implies a level of accuracy greater than what should be expected with the given level of control over other variables.
Basically, if you say anything about that, I'd intentionally leave the wording "mushy".
muddocktor
10-26-10, 01:09 AM
How about "No unusual difference in recorded temps between the pre-applied TIM and MX2 then?
I.M.O.G.
10-26-10, 01:25 AM
Yup, I'd say something like "no unusual difference" or "no discernible difference given the test environment".
