Hi everyone!

I'm having great difficulty with my hotmail account. This problem has occurred countless times but somehow, after a few attempts it resolves itself. This time, however, the problem persists and I cannot access my emails. The attached files are screenshots which illustrates the problem.

I have tried it on 3 web browsers: google chrome, mozilla firefox 3.6 and Internet explorer 8. Before I attempt to access hotmail, I would first clear the cache, cookies etc. then restart the browser. That did not work, so I restarted the computer but there was no breakthrough either. I've also tried accessing it on multiple computers (3 actually) but it was still problematic. Note that I checked the "remember me" and "remember my password" box, and I have allowed cookies, cache etc to be saved.

I have ESET NOD32 version 4 (it did not give me problems even after being installed, so it can only be caused by an incompatible update. It is not the fault of the engine.) and windows firewall.

Please help me out! Thanks in advance.

I honestly have no idea. Something must have happened server side. I would suggest you contact hotmail support, if such a thing exists. If something comes to me I'll make another post.

Have you tried disabling all of your firewalls/antivirus type software? Also, do you have any addons that alter pages? A la adblock?

I've had things like that happen before. Just reload the page a few times and it goes away. Just checked my Hotmail, working fine here.

"Have you tried disabling all of your firewalls/antivirus type software? Also, do you have any addons that alter pages? A la adblock?"

Yes, I disabled firewall, antivirus and all security settings on the web browser, but still yields nothing.

"I've had things like that happen before. Just reload the page a few times and it goes away. Just checked my Hotmail, working fine here."

I tried like 15 times every hour for 1 week already... Glad it's working fine on your side though.

After this torture session, I'm going to go with gmail, which I have not heard complains of. What say you?

After trying hundreds of times, I finally managed to read my mails at the time of writing. However, my past mails have been missing or deleted although the tittle etc all show up. Here's the error: :bang head

Have you tried using POP3 with hotmail? You have to set it up in the options, but that could get around the issue. Have you reinstalled any of the browsers? If you get the same error on all 3 though, its probably another issue.

Gmail is great as far as browser compatibility goes. I'm not a huge fan of threaded emails, but its fairly easy to get around that. Oh yeah, no ads in gmail.

Same thing happened to me. Don't know what to do.

Also, my computer is not loading Facebook.

This seems to happen the most with Opera.

This worked for me:

I've had the same problem - it's to do with domain name servers - otherwise known as 'DNS'. Normally these are sorted out by your Internet Service Provider - ring them and tell them there's a problem. However if you're techie enough it's easy to solve without bothering them - Use a free service such as OpenDNS (www.opendns.com) - it's a matter of going to your router (or modem) 's set up page, and typing in two rows of numbers. You don't need to understand it to sort it - but you do need to follow the instructions carefully if you're not sure what you're doing.Full instructions on OpenDNS's site - Click on 'Get Started'

The problem may lie with your ISP or with your router, and the way it's handling the DNS numbers which are (usually) automatically provided by the ISP - either way they should be able to provide advice.

A domain name server by the way is a device which translates all the web addresses we use - for example www.facebook.com - into the numbers which computer networks understand, so we surf to the same place each time.

Hope it works for you as well.

This may have something to do with things:
Some Hotmail users report missing e-mails (AP) (http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5iNT3xDRS_wMkjRVrNAvsxPN1Xz7w?docId=7)

Though apparently fixed now?
