HOW TO HELP:
1. Pick a range of 10 to handle which someone else hasn't already grabbed, post your range below (see my example in post #2)
2. Open attached spreadsheet
3. Find the page listed for each row here. (instructions in post 3 for the easy way to do this)
4. Search Overclockers.com for that article, put new URL for article in spreadsheet next to old URL
5. Edit your post, attach your version of the spreadsheet including the new URLs.
6. If you want to do 10 more, post again with what you are working on, and start back at step 1 (this makes sure someone else isn't already doing what you are doing)

WHEN:
Anytime, the sooner we have it done, the sooner overclockers.com visitors will stop hitting 404 pages.

WHY:

Our 15th most viewed page, including the blog and forums, is our 404 page. I need help to fix that.

Links that used to point to things like www.overclockers.com\tips437 now end up on an error page saying that page isn't found. The article exists on the website, but it's URL has changed twice (once for the joomla site upgrade, once for the wordpress site upgrade).

iNet has links to the old Joomla site redirecting to the new wordpress URL, but links to the old grey site which ran for 10 years do not redirect to the new wordpress URL. With your help, we can fix this.

I'll do rows 1-10, and attach my results here once I'm done.

EDIT: Uploaded spreadsheet with URLs for 1-10

How to find the right URL

1. Row 1 in the spreadsheet says /tips437/
2. Add tips437/ onto this address, and view the page:
http://web.archive.org/web/20080116145241/www.overclockers.com/
3. Identify date and good search keywords for article: http://web.archive.org/web/20080116145241/www.overclockers.com/tips437/
4. Search overclockers.com for "Measuring Heatsink Temperatures" and find the article posted on 4/12/01:
http://www.overclockers.com/measuring-heatsink-temperatures/
5. Insert that address into spreadsheet next to the old page address

I got your back on 11-20.

Here it is.
Bad news though. After being mind boggled for 20 minutes and even thinking I was doing something wrong (I wasn't). It appears some stuff got lost in the transition. 5 out of the 10 that I did are simply not there any more. I marked them with "not found" instead of the URL.

Thanks guys! Really appreciate the good start. :)

hmmm, I checked one of those, and I had to dig a bit harder to find it on the site - search isn't picking it up well:
http://web.archive.org/web/20080116145541/www.overclockers.com/tips1015/
http://www.overclockers.com/how-to-lap-a-heatsink/

The next one needs some work also, somehow the article title got botched:
http://web.archive.org/web/20080116145317/www.overclockers.com/articles1230/index.asp
http://www.overclockers.com/toshiba-protege-m200/

I'm sure everything is there, but I'm not sure why those ones were so much harder to find than others. I'll checkout the other ones also, but thanks for doing it despite it being a pain.

For anyone having trouble finding certain articles - putting "not found" down is great. I can do the ones which are more of a pain.

Grabbing 61-70

Edit: Found 9 of 10, though 1 was 1/2 of a page. Put in the URL for the ful page, along with the reference to the other 1/2 of the article.

Grabbing 71-90
Edit: a few of them are for a single page out of a multi-page article. On the new site, it seems to only be a single page. I put in the URL for the full article on those.

Just put things together, great work guys! Thanks a lot... I'll update this thread once the redirects are in place and these old links are working again!

Doing 101-110.

Had one I couldn't find - someone else may want to take a shot at it: /links/index03.asp

Thanks for the help guys, they are working on implementing the first 100 now and I'm awaiting confirmation that they are all set. I'll forward any more that we get done also, really appreciate people getting in on this.

Careful with the post edits guys - looks like shadow duped some of QI's range. Not a problem, just don't want you guys spending more time than you need to! :salute:
