I have been away from the Forums for a while and when we started this new forum about 75% of us were intel. Now I see about 65% are AMD. I have always had intel and the little Cellys treated me right. I want to build another system and have got mostly AMD advice. I don't mind trying an AMD system, but that little Tulatin 1.2 is really impressive. With the Celly I only need the Abit ST6 and the CPU. If I go AMD I need the P/S, CPU, M/Bd and DDR ram. The money really don't matter, in the Database it looks like this chip is a winner. I am not a Gamer, just surf a little and check the forums. I can just see it purring along at 133fsb. Any Thoughts.?

Jump on it. I only run an 800 Celery, and it has treated me very good. It will OC to 133 fsb and runs pretty well at that. I have read nothing but praise for the tualatin cpu's in these forums. I have even shopped around for one myself, but cannot afford the funds for one yet. The AMD stuff looks pretty sweet too, especially the XP processors. But if you want to stick with Intel, then the Tualatin processor looks to be the way to go right now. It is even giving the Athlon XP's and Pentium 4's a run for thier money right now.

Nice Job. I didn't realize the 800 would run that well. I am trying to decide between the Tulatin 1.2 and the XP1700. I am still running the Celly 600 at 900 on the SY7VCA2 board. It ran well on my SY6BA3 board also. Thanks for the input.;)

check out some of the posts by ol' man, he has abused a few of them now. I think that 1.6 133fsb should be possible out of the 1.2. I have one and I am stuck at 1.5, I can run 1.6 but get errors when above 42 c. I think the 1.2 is a sweet chip for the money. But then again, the AMD chips are nice too.

Those XP chips are pure raw power. If those cores weren't as easy to crush or had the IHS like the Tualatins, I'd be on the bandwagon.

Anyways, I feel the Tualatin series chips are the best Intel release chips to date. Those Cellys OC very good (be sure not to get the 1st release ones as they don't reach 1.6 well) and temps (if you're worried about that) won't frighten you at all. You've got to push these chips, but if you manage, they give great bang for the buck.

How many AMD T-birds/Durons/XP's can do 400MHz OCs on aircooling?

Yep, with the 1.2's, you have about a 50/50 chance of hitting 133. Ol' man's also abused a few 1.0A's, and if you want a high FSB, that's the way to go. I've seen a few of those at 140-150 FSB which is dang impressive. The 1.3's are not as good as the 1.2's and the 1.0A's. I haven't heard much on the 1.1A's but I'd assume they'd be nice too.

I don't hang around much in the AMD forums but yes, you'd have to do a lot of replacing, especially compared to the fact you'll only need the mobo+ram. Though the Abit ST-6 is a great board, the Gigabyte GA-60XET(C) is a great overclocking board as it has 1/5 and 1/6 dividers. I've heard really positive responses from both, though. Just stay away from the Asus TUSL2 and TUSL2-C, they have some divider issues... apparently the 1/4 divider doesn't kick in until 133FSB and there isn't a way to override that... isn't too great.
