OK guys i figured i would start to put all my games on steam. I have a BF2 cd key and everything but when i try and add the key it says its invalid. How do i go about adding a key/game to steam that i didnt buy through steam?

You can only add retail games whose publishers have worked out a deal with Valve, a list of these third party games can be found here: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-wusf-3601

For games not on the list, you can add a shortcut to your Steam client and take advantage of the Steam overlay, friends list, etc, but it won't actually be associated with your Steam account. Go to Games > Add Non-Steam game to my Library to do this.

Nope, there are lots of games that are sold on Steam, yet cannot be registered if bought from B&M retail stores. I've got a dozen or so games that I'd like to register if I could (much easier to download at will than keep track of the discs and little pieces of paper with the CD keys), but EA employs many screwballs who refuse to let me associate the games with any other company.
