Alright, so I've been scraping the web for any piece of news that would be worthy of the front page but didn't find anything worth mentioning the dog. So I'm gonna start this thread for people that have interesting news.

Report interesting news here!

If you have something that you think is good enough, post a link here and we'll look into it. If it's good stuff, the news team will make it for the front page!

Thanks for your help! :)

I'm not sure if you will think this is interesting, but I think it is.

Any possibility for getting someone from the benching team to write a summary of what it is, why its important to the benching community, and link to the original article on madshrimps.be? http://www.madshrimps.be/vbulletin/f22/3dmark-11-images-video-inside-there-will-free-version-72326/

Doesn't need to be much, and I can take care of embedding the video.

Hmmm.. no USB 3.0? Intel wants to drop USB3.0? WOW! does not look good. Hopefully there will be a rebuild in the retail product!

Actually Intel wants to use their own Light Peak technology (http://techresearch.intel.com/articles/None/1813.htm), according to this month's CPU magazine. IIRC it's supposed to be compatible with USB 2.0 but they didn't know about 3.0.

Wow that will really hurt the buyers of USB 3.0 products.

Not sure if you can see it without being signed in (and a subscriber), but here's the article (http://www.computerpoweruser.com/editorial/article.asp?article=articles/archive/c1006/60c06/60c06.asp&articleid=63815&guid=B8566F16C4274EBCB609CFE0A32BE777&searchtype=0&WordList=LIGHT+PEAK&bJumpTo=True). One quick quote:
We found out why Intel appears to be treading water at the Intel Developer Forum in Beijing in mid-April. Intel showed off a technology called Light Peak, a proprietary fiber-optic system that allows faster transfers than USB 3.0. This suggests that perhaps Intel is rather half-hearted about the USB SuperSpeed technology now, even though the company has always pushed it as a standard.
Sorry for the hijack Dostov!

I can view that fine Hokie, not signed in.

And that's definitely news - albeit not good news - until USB3.0/lightpeak settles out, its the making of another HD-DVD/bluray situation which isn't really good for anyone. :-/

EVGA's mobo team has run away!

Source: Tweak Town

COMPUTEX Taipei 2010 - HardOCP the other morning had a breaking news post about EVGA’s entire motherboard team leaving. Over the last couple of years EVGA has gained a very good reputation for their motherboards. Most if not all of these designs came from the same team that was at one point pumping out great designs for EpoX (remember the EpoX BP7+ 100 that was the only thing on the market to compete with ABIT and ASUS’ designs?)

On our way out of the city today Cameron and I caught wind of where the team was headed. It’s looking like the EVGA motherboard team will be setting up shop at Sapphire. With AMD Fusion coming in 2011 this has the potential to turn into a big deal for Sapphire who has been borrowing other teams for their motherboard product designs.

It looks like Lars and the boys over at Semi Accurate broke the story before we were able to get back to the Taiwan office. Hit the News Source button below to read their take on things.

12:05 <@David> or not so great :)

If I can find time I'll trawl the forums for a "Goodbye LanParty" type article (bound to be plenty of threads we could pull info from), but if anyone else wants it, go for it.

you know i recall some time around 05 or 06 where they talked about EFI replacing bios's. the it would be next year but never happened, that EFI only seemed to get used on Apple based intel machines. really confused me since it was suppose to be huge thing for motherboards.

Dolk

Exactly, Allowing C code on a BIOS creates huge possibilities for fine tuning Computers and advanced security. We could see more potential out of our CPUs, because I know that with the right code, computers can go faster. This even includes the Denebs on LHe :D

An advantage of using C rather than assembly is not speed. :screwy:

Evilsizer
06-10-10, 03:07 PM
well i dont know if EFI is suppose to help speed up boot processes or not. though with the P55 AsRock board i have, it boots the fastest from button push to windows loading. then any other board i have used to date.

Dolk
06-10-10, 03:08 PM
If you have the properly code, it can be; at least that is my experiance with assembly and C on computer Hardware.

One advantage is higher allocation of memory. This creates more room for specific profiles that are tuned for CPUs. For example, the Thuban CPU is a problem for old AM2+ MOBO BIOS. Reason is there is not a lot of room on the BIOS for the Turbo Code, and the code that allows you to OC the CPU. ASUS is having a huge problem with it right now and are working hard to figure out the best means of including both.

We can argue this once the article is up

IMOG do work son!!!!
