Hi peeps, been awhile since i posted.... ok heres the thing.. i have a voodoo 3 3000, on my 800mhz sys, recently just got a decent HCF on it, so its runnin happy, thinkin of o/cin that again now it has the cooling to cope with it, but anyway, this be the graphics forums huh.. k .. im using Win XP now, an personally, i wont use any other windows sys if it be microsloth its gonna be XP.. but problem is, microsoft has left glide support since 3dfx went under.. so now depending on what games im playing, im stuck changing drivers all the time.. either use a NT4 driver for glide based games, or use the microsoft one for d3d games... an im just sick of doin that... i love my voodoo.. but unless i can get an all round driver that is gonna do the job for both glide an d3d, its gettin the arse :P .. anyone know of a good driver set that can do that in XP ?... also as a test, i got a cheapie type 32meg card thinking maybe it will do atleast as well as the 16meg voodoo till i gf3's come down a bit closer to earth in terms of price.. hehe..
so in comes the 3d prophet 4000XT.. basically seems to run ok .. tested on a few games an that was all fairlyyyyyy smooth.. nothing fantastic.. but i wasnt complaining to much... but ive found i have one problem that i had with the voodoo 3 as well with the 3d prophet.. i cant run 3dmark 2001 to test it on XP.. with both cards it says 'cant create direct 3d device' and exits install ... from what i have read there is a problem with colour depth possibly, however i tried different modes and colour depths to no avail.. can anyone tell me whats up with that? or know of a work around for XP ?... ok last but not least.. the voodoo 3 runs standard clock of 166mhz.. but is limited to 16meg... the 3d prophet is only 115mhz standard clock speed, but is 32meg (not sure how far it can be pushed, but the built in o/c for it suggests max of 145mhz), so whats the better deal anyone?.. keep in mind this is for XP only though, cause i aint goin back to 98 SE (sh*t edition) lol ..

ok so its a long one... its been awhile sheeesh!!.. :D

cheers in advance for any help you guys can give me ...

catchya's.

yeah ta, found that one... came accross some third party drivers that work alot better in XP than the official ones.. glide works again !!!.. properly.. no bs in UT... the only downside, was that i found in diablo2, the area's outside of your light radius are redish.. looks wierd.. but hopefully there will be newer versions of these drivers since they are only alpha versions.. overall pretty happy with them though.. voodoo 3/4/5 3dfx Underground VoodooXP alpha 6 drivers 1.00.06 .. not oc'ing at present and got about 3330 in 3dmark 2000 @ 800x600 16bit, double buffer..
get a couple fans later an run it again oc'd an see how it goes.. will post back.. still cant run 3dmark 2001 though, same error.. 'cant create d3d device'... oh and ive given up on the POS 3d Prophet 4000XT .. got into an area of diablo2 exp that had alot of dudes everywhere.. hosting a LAN, and completely locked up.. sat there a bit, then video completely died.. black screen.. power button job.. lol fook it !!.. so yeah.. given that one the arse.. its score was not alot better than the voodoo's in 3dmark 2000 anyway.. the voodoo's alot more stable.. so gonna stick with that till i got the bucks for a gf3 ti500 :)

i use the same drivers on my voodoo5500. 3dmark 2001 always locks up on me. not sure if it's the drivers or my sis645 chipset since this also happens to me on 98se. the only thing i had to install from the sis cd was the agp drivers. i emailed them and asked if they tested it with voodoo cards and they never replied. glad they worked pretty good for you.

to my knowledge, there are no drivers for win xp, that actually work with voodoo 3's

well dood, try goin to www.voodoofiles.com and getting a little more knowledge :P im using drivers made for XP on my voodoo 3 right now that DO give true glide ... they are an alpha release, but they work, anything written after this can only get better, but ive seen no problems so far.. im happy with them :) be back later.. let ya's know the bench results after oc'in it on XP too .. got to wack a fan on that sucker :P l8trs..

i think i know your 3dmark2001 problem. the voodoo 3 3000 is a 16meg card and i'm pretty sure 2001 requires a card to have at least 32megs to run the program.:(

wish it was so simple... it does run it, its because of xp an lack of glide support.. even with the newer drivers that do support use of glide .... it is only for some games an programs.. not all ..
3dmark 2001 does run in win98se, but wont run in XP, although even in 98se it failed to run alot of the tests because they are aimed at higher end cards, the newer technologies which are not found in the voodoo 3... was interested to try it under XP mainly for the fact that XP's memory management is far superior to that of 98se (sh*t edition [had to say it yet again hehe]) ..
this is also evident since it would not allow me to even run 3dmark anything.. 99.. 99max.. 2000 even, prior to the release of these newer drivers ..under XP..
