If this is in the wrong forum then sorry. It is not intended to be a sales pitch but rather informative on what is a new video line. This is on sale as of last night (first time I noticed it) and I'm sure those of you that get out know where. They are even in stock and the price is great.

and this is a little different than I expected. Band width is higher than a Gainward gf3 ti200 but a little under a gf3 ti500 I believe. I also thought that the ddr was going to be 64 but it appears that it is 128. Did just notice that it says gf3 on the pic. Need to go over to newegg and ask what's up with that.

And lastly a Picture. This sure beats out the gf2 I was considering as a low cost video card. Heck it even appears better than the gf3 ti 200 and a lower introduction price. Hold on, need to wait on the opinion till I talk with newegg.

Reconsider: this IS a GeForce2. The marketing weasels @ nvidia took the old GPU, remanufactured on smaller die, coupled w/ faster RAM, and a few minor architecture changes and dabbed it GeForce4 MX even though it has nothing in common with the true NV25 GeForce4 chip. So what you get is the fastest Geforce2 yet, slightly faster than Geforce3 ti200 under some circumstances even. But it's still a GeForce2, and that means no advanced features of Geforce3/4 and no DirectX 8 hardware support. In games that utilize these new features it gets trounced by Geforce3 Ti200, especially at higher resolutions. So it seems to me that a GeForce3 Ti200 is a better deal for just a bit more $, and I think the prices on GeForce3 cards will go down after true GeForce4's hit the scene.

I thought they were talking sdram on this card but it is showing ddr and the bandwidth is 7.36 vs ti200 at 6.4 and ti500 at 8.0. You would think this would beat out the gf3 ti200. Going over to tom's to compare their config.

Ok, Tom's review is based on the nv17 mx440 and not on the nv20 mx440. The difference, I'm not really sure. On this model the bandwidth was supposed to be 6.4 but seems to show 7.3. DDr was supposed to be 64 but here we have 128. Are these the only difference between the nv17 and nv20 lines? Off to find out more.

Obviously the specs are wrong. Leadtek shows it as a shmax (read souped up mx400) with 64 meg and bandwidth of 2.8 gb/s. Will let newegg know the error of their ways. The good side is Toms saying that the dealers need to be dumping the gf3 ti500s for $150 to $180 as the next generation will be cheaper and perform better. There ought to be some really good deals coming up for the budget concious. I think if I had a gf3 ti500 and wanted to upgrade I would throw in a cheap spare card and have my gf3 ti500 in the classifieds before the prices fall through the floor.
