I think this is the cheapest per GB price I've seen on any drive at $0.05/GB. And it's a 2TB drive although a 5900RPM one - basically Seagate's 'green' drive - good for mass storage though.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148413 use promo code seagate30 to get $30 off.

*cue OMG Seagate never again! posts* :)

I think this is the cheapest per GB price I've seen on any drive at $0.50/GB.

50 cents per gigabyte? That means the drive costs $1000 for 2 terabytes. What a ripoff!

Good thing it is 5 cents per gigabyte. :santa2:

Um, that's not 50 cents, that's 5 cents :)

EDIT: Trottel beat me to it.

Also, this drive was $90 (after $30 code) as of last night. NewEgg's popularity pricing in action...

I just finally got around to updating the firmware on my 7200.11 1TB drive after years of use. Never had problems with it :)

FINE nitpickers :p I was still half asleep when I posted. Anyway $0.05 per GB is lower than the typical ~$0.07. It was advertised at $100 w/ promo code in an email yesterday so maybe it was $90 at one point when there was some crossover time but the email ad (Guerilla deals, lol) said $100.

They guerilla un-dealed it, though :p I'm pretty sure their usage of the word guerilla is screwy, anyway :)

Sure does have bad reviews too. 38% 5 eggs and 30% 1 egg. I smell imminent failure approaching.

Take away those who didn't purchase the drive at NewEgg. Everyone knows, or should know, that many reviews are written by people who have never touched the product they're reviewing.

20 of the 1- and 2-star reviews did not purchase the drive from NewEgg. That leaves 68 1- and 2-star reviews.
18 of the 4- and 5-star reviews did not purchase the drive from NewEgg. That leaves 99 4- and 5-star reviews.
3 of the 3-star reviews did not purchase the drive from NewEgg. That leaves 14 3-star reviews.

68 negative - 37.57%
14 neutral - 7.73%
99 positive - 54.70%
181 total - 100%

If you drop the neutrals, then you end up with around 60%/40% good/bad reviews. Then, consider the average computer hardware care and usage knowledge of many of NewEgg's customers, and ignore every review :)

I'll say again, watch newegg open box for 2tb Hitachi 7200rpm drives, regularly 100-104 before shipping.

LOL, pettey, that's pretty funny, but on a serious note:
Let's not forget that more people come to post NEGATIVE reviews than people posting POSITIVE reviews. :)

Why now? Was going to build a NAS box with a couple of those drives in a few months.

Love the Pros:

Pros: If you like having something to curse at?

Cons: Bought one of these drives, used it for about a week, left a good review on this site, and then later that same day it started making "click of death" noises. Ordered a replacement from newegg (same model), copied all my data from 1st to 2nd drive, shipped the first one back, and now... I haven't even gotten my RMA refund from the first defective drive, and the second one has started making "click of death" noises and is experiencing freezing during video playback off the drive. Guess I'll have to order another replacement now, copy my data to that one, and return this drive. Argh!! I don't have time for this!

Other Thoughts: I love Seagate. Their 500GB 7200.12 drives power many of the workstations at my office. But avoid these 2TB drives like the plague. :-(
