I wanna format my computer, and want to know how I can do so using WinXP. I know the command line prompt is different, so can anyone help me?
i find it easiest to just pop the xp cd in then shut the computer off and when it tries to install again ( i assume that you want to put xp back on after) you will get the option to first format then install. otherwise if you plan on putting linux or something else then i cannot help you, sorry.
um..you want to format your computer?...In XP??...you mean you want to Format your HDD and start from scratch??
***WARNING, FORMATTING YOUR HARD DRIVE WILL CAUSE ALL DATA TO BE ERASED!***
lol...anyways...if you want to format..just use a boot disk , put it into the floppy drive and boot from it
then at the "A:\>" type format c:
it will ask you if your sure you wantt o do that....and if you say "yes"..then its formatted...may take a while depending on your HDD size...and there are various switches you can use as well....but im not getting into that...
DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK..I will not take any responsibility fpr what you do....

LMK how many HDD u have and there is a much easier way to do it ........then.
I had a big problem formatting the thing cos' didn't have a working FDD ( still don't have one ).
And windows does not allow you to use the inbuilt formatting tool for formatting the drive on which it resides:mad:
I would agree, use a boot disk, Easiest to create one using a Win 95 or 98 sys. Or depending an your brand of hard drive. If you are using a WD go to their site and download the Data Lifeguard Tools. http://www.westerndigital.com/support/download/
Use this program to create a boot disk for ONLY WD drives. It works magic. It also gives you different trouble shooting features for you harddrive. It lets u format a drive without a Win bootdisk.
