Sli vs. X-fire Bridges

What exactly is the difference between the two? I have an Sli bridge that came with my 9800gtx+, and I was wondering if they worked the same as X-fire bridges.

Same concept, unfortunately they are not interchangeable (slightly different width and pin configuration)
