View Full Version : Can't decide again! :(
Ok so before I wanted to get an ati 5850 but then I was looking at benchmarks and it seems that nvidia 470 is better. However i read around and some people said that 5850 is better than the 470 and the 5850 is easily overclocked. So now im stuck between these three cards which are in my budget range.
XFX HD-585X-ZAFC Radeon HD 5850 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150477)
EVGA 012-P3-1472-AR GeForce GTX 470 (Fermi) (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130549)
ASUS ENGTX470/2DI/1280MD5 GeForce GTX 470 (Fermi) (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121372)
any feedback is greatly appreciated, I just can't decide what to get?!

go with a 5850 that you can adjust the votage and you can OC past 5870 lvls np
i just bought a 5850 and i got it oc to 5870 settings without any voltage and it still runs cool

thanks for the feedback, do you use the stock cooling? I'm getting a haf x case that has a 230mm fan dedicated for pci-e cooling, i'm wonder whether i should get aftermarket cooling for my gpu cuz i plan to do the same oc as you.

Please note that if you get the 5850, get one has has a reference design pcb. IIRC, XFX has no voltage control.

Exactly ^^ the His iCooler 5850 isn't a reference card. Choose one like the Visiontek (lifetime warranty) or the Msi card, which is non-reference, but has voltage control. Asus is another one that is non-reference, but has voltage tweek from Asus.

Yep, if you check the specs tab it specifies voltage tweak.

thanks, I'm kinda new to OCing, but is having voltage tweeks a big deal? Like if I were to stay with the xfx would it still OC well?

Well here's the thing. Most likely you will have a decent overclock on the stock voltage that a company provides, but say you got a semi-lame chip that doesn't like to go higher unless you have a tad more voltage. It sure would be nice to have voltage tweek then right? I just wouldn't take the chance. Get something with controllable voltage just incase, or maybe someday you'll just want to play.
