I'll start off by saying that I have cable Internet, 1.5 mb connection. My modem is an Arris tm502g and my router is a linksys wrt54g. For the past 2 days my Internet has been goin down frequently, it's down for several minutes(10 atleast) I try power cycling my modem and router with no change. Yesterday it happened more frequently than today, probably 1-2 times an hour. Today it's happened about 3 times in 6 hours but as I type this my net has been down for over an hour. My friend who lives across the street from me with the same ISP is having no connection issues at all. What is the likelyness that my modem is causing this? I haven't called my ISP yet since it's the weekend bur I will tomorrow and I'm wondering if there's anything specific I should ask them.

Also one thing I wanna add, for about the past 2 months or so my Internet speed hasn't been too consistent. Randomly my latency skyrockets up from about 200ms to 1000-5000. Most of the time the lag spiked are short, few minutes, but they have lasted 30min-1hour. I'm also sure no one on the network is hoggin the bandwidth or else I would t be posting this. Sorry for the wall of text but thanks for reading and I appreciate any help

Is your DS or link light on your modem changing color or blinking when the net goes down.

no bad connections? lose cables?
reconnect all cables and try again...
maby some work on your line from the connection station? (isp should have answer to that)
tryed a diffrent connection to router?
tryed power off modem and router for 20min for reset?

First thing I would test is direct connection between modem and a computer when the connection goes down. Plug the modem directly into the computer, then power cycle the modem. Once it comes back up, see if you have internet connectivity. This eliminates the wrt54g from the equation, which has its own host of problems depending on what you are trying to make it do.

If it works when directly connected to the modem, its a wrt54g issue and we should look at that closer.

If no internet connection directly through the modem...

Contact technical support. The first thing they will/should look at is the quality of the signal your modem is reporting - that will tell them if there are any problems going from the street to inside your home with the cabling, or even any splitters you have installed inside your home which could be hurting the signal (if the signal is weak they may ask about that).

If that is not a problem, there are other items they can look at too. If you are power cycling the modem and it doesn't bring your internet connection back up, its something they can fix and that they should have good visibility of on their end.

tryed power off modem and router for 20min for reset?

While possibly this could be considered a "soft reset", that wouldn't really reset anything. When power is removed, being powered off for 2 minutes or 20 is no different really to the device - the connections it had open which could fill up any tables its keeping are dropped when power is removed.
