Just a quick intro then :blah:
My name is Liz, I'm 18 and I have quite a bit of knowledge on the workings of Windows computers. I run a Windows 7.
Last week we had a thunder storm and so I unplugged all the computers in the house, that includes the one to which the router (d-link) is connected. Since then only my computer has lost connection. My phone, the laptop, the router-computer, the Wii and the PS3 can still connect.

Foolishly, after waiting for 3 days for a miracle to happen, I decided to fix the problem myself. You can see where it all went wrong here. I deleted the USB dongle in Hardware and tried to reconnect from scratch. Now the connection is probably set to the wrong area (wireless network connection?) and the type of connection I made is called ad-hoc in Dutch, I don't know how that translates to English computers.

I wasn't sure where to post this xD

I'm having just a little problem understanding. And I'm not a super expert or anything. That may be why. But I saw your post.

So you're saying that everything is working except you can't access the internet from your Win 7 pc even thouh the router is working?
Is that right?

You've tried the WIN7 analyze internet connection tool? It should indicate-or sometimes does--if your not connected and why etc. What does it say? It should be located in the lower right hand corner of your taskbar. Just to the left of your audio indicator. This troubleshooter tool can sometimes tell you what to do. It doesn't help?

First of all; Thank you for replying :D
I tried the Windows trouble shooting thing, it didn't help a lot. It mentioned that there might be a problem with the driver/software for the dongle.
But it seems the problem is beyond Win, as it sends me to their online help desk xD

I currently have 4 connection points:
*Wireless network connection
- 802.n Wireless PCI Express Card LAN Adapter
*LAN connection
- RealTek PCIe GBE Family Controller
*Wireless network connection 4
- Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter
*Wireless network connection 2
- D-link DWA-140 RangeBooster Network Adapter

I used to get internet on connection 2, but I suspect it can be done on connection 4 too. At the moment the first two on the list are switched on, but cannot connect. I understand that that is because they are LAN connections. However, I cannot get the last two to connect (connection 4 and 2).

Every now and then the router I am looking for pops up in the connectivity list (bottom right, as you mentioned), but it dissapears after 5 seconds and I cannot connect to it.

I'll think about it. I'm not all that experienced with multiple devices as your using etc. I dont' even have a router any more :). I'm sure this can be resolved and I'll keep thinking. One of the rocket scientists here will chime in and solve this. Plus I'll ask around and see if I can get any new ideas.

But along this line have you investigated the possibility of "resetting" your router in some manner? You probbly have uh? I mean just a power off/on etc. I understand how you mention the connectiviy opportunity momentarily appears/disappears etc. Sometimes these types of things can be solved with unplugging/and replugging etc/ power off/on etc. Sounds like its searching.

I'll keep thinking.

Scary! I switched the router off and on, played with a few settings and it worked
wow well thanks :D
strange how one overlooks the simple things
I reset everything on my side, but I didn't consider switching off the source xD

Go to your network & sharing center. Manage wireless networks on the top left. Remove the ad hoc and any other network profiles you have there. Go to your tray and connect to your network from the list of available networks. Enter your wireless key when prompted and enjoy. If this doesn't work you have something going on with your D-Link USB wireless card drivers. Uninstall it from add/remove programs download the latest driver on another pc and install it again.
