I am having a problem...I can't get the 800 to boot. I am concerned about the voltage... the pII runs @ 2v(I think) the PIII celeron @1.65-1.7v There are no jumpers on the board or in the manual ( that I can see) for changing voltage, the PIII cpu really heated up no boot. I put the PII back in and works fine...
in the cmos it says it can handle up to 800mhz (100mhz x 8)
Any hints, be appreciated.

I updated the bios now says it will run 1000@100FSBx10
Still no boot from celeron 800???

Does that motherboard have the latest BIOS installed? It may need it to support Coppermines. It should considering it states it supports that far by default though.

Thanx Jon
I have been avoiding flashing the bios :}
But if I must Then I must!

If that PIII was getting 3.5V for a Vcore default, you bet it would heat up! You'll most likely need a BIOS update for it to work, as Jon said. G'luck!

If the slotket allows voltage adjustments set it to 1.8V

actually, the old klamath p2's ran at 2.8 volts and reason is that your board doesnt have the "code" for pentium3's nothing can fix it. only new boards run the p3. the abit bh6 wont run p3s either

I myself also just aquired that wonderful POS MoBo (but I have a 333 PII). I want to see what this baby will do. Frying IS an option, plainly as you see by my avatar, I am PRO AMD. The bios allows for 66/100 fsb, and clock multiplier up to 8X. Is there any way to unlock this bad boy? I want to see it sweat, and quite frankly, once fried, it makes a good looking keychain! ... I also D/L the latest bios, but am not familiar with updating it.. how is it done?

awwwwwww such a waste to kill a cpu, no matter how old it is :( if yours is not locked, lower the multiplier to 3.5 if its locked, use a 75MHz fsb. you wont fry that cpu if you use hs/fan and voltage up to 3.2 also these go for tons on ebay, like $30-40 since they are the fastest pentium2 on a 66fsb and many still have lx boards and dont wanna OC. just a year ago, they were $100 on pricewatch! that was as much as a 500MHz p3!

I cant get 75 Mhz fsb, only 66/100. I tried to set the multiplier to run at 400, but only booted up at 333. are you saying to set the fsb at 100, and the clock at 3.5? anyway to unlock it?

it will not unlock it, itll just run at a lower multiplier. just try it. if you get 350, then its soft locked, if not, its hard locked and youll still get 333(if using 66fsb or 500MHz if using 100fsb, but I doubt your cpu can take 500MHz). my pentium2 300, I cant make the multiplier higher, but I can make it lower and set the fsb to 100 to make it 350MHz

hi Tx for your input please read my last post. Are you saying that I may not be able to run the 800 celeron
the cmos indicates yes now that I have updated the cmos it indicates 1050@ 100FSBx10.5, if I cannot use the P111 can I some how up the PII Deschutes 266-450 from 353mhs???

you can try running a 300a celeron at 450. if your motherboard doesnt support voltage adjustments, you dont have much of a chance. what year was your motherboard made? the bios update may support 1GHz but they assumed the pentium2 would countinue being made at that speed. they didnt know it stopped being made faster than 450. even my abit bh6 board's bios goes to 133x8 which would make it 1066MHz but the abit website states this board doesnt support pentium3's and no pentium2 can be overclocked so far. 550 is the highest I got my 366 celeron

I am thiking that the board was made in 1995

I think the coppermines were invented in late 1999. at least you can probably use a katmai pentium3 to 600MHz. I would just get a new motherboard for $80 and sell the old one on ebay. no biggie, oh and new motherboard for overclocking :)
