Thinking about buying some water cooling for my other rig and i was wondering if the new 0.13 mircon chips will use the same socket as the current xp chips. I dont want to have to buy a water block and find out that is obsolete 3 month later

YES! Socket 462 or A will be with us for some time now until the

new 64-bit/32-bit code processing capable Clawhammer and

Sledgehammer cores come

into the picture because their internal arcitechture will be

comepletely different from the 32-bit/16-bit only Thunderbird,

Palamino and Thoroughbred arcitechtures which are very similar

to each other except for their Fabrication die sizes and instuctions.

So there is no need for AMD to design a completly new ZIF Socket

design for last two 32-bit/16-bit code processing capable core

designs which are the Thoroughbreds and the Thoroughbreds

with Silicon on Insulator Technology. I know very little about the

Barton cores, so can anyone tell me if the Barton is going to be a

32-bit or 64-bit Duron or Athlon core design please?

Thank you PenguinFreak!;) I now see that the 0.13-m Bartons with SOI come after the T-bred Athlons so I'm going to skip the T-breds and go for a Barton Athlon chip instead because they're even more cooler running chips with SOI technology and they will probably work in KT-333A Socket A Mobos, oh yeah!:burn:
