Check local Meijer if you got them, my local were blowing out the last external drive at a fairly cheap price. I checked eBay, it's about the average selling price shipped so $70 is not too bad.
It's the larger 3.5" model requiring external power and not the smaller 2.5" USB powered model.
I thought it looked funny sitting next to new 500GB external hard drives for $80.
PS for real fail, check Walmart. I saw a well worn box of 250GB 2.5" external hard drive on clearance sale for... $90. I asked why so much when I could get 1TB for about the same. They said 250 is bigger than 1 :screwy:

I just had someone bring me a Seagate Freeagent go 1TB this week. Dead and no way of getting it back up. Look up feedback on Newegg and many of their drives go dead in under a year...and that's stretching it.

Is it a 7200.11? I've recovered a few drives that had the firmware issue that kept them from being recognised by the computer. Once the drive is unlocked, and flashed, the data can be recovered. Does it spin up, but the computer doesn't see it?

It emits a faint beeping noise if you put your ear up to it. Pretty common from what I found out. The owner took it back hoping to get it RMAd.

eewww.... Yep, toast. Deffinately too many failures for me to buy Seagates, but it also bothers me that i'm seeing too many failures in Western Digital lately too. Read element failures to be exact. While its not a terrible amount, it's just more than i'm acustomed to seeing from WD.

Just got a recert 7200.11 1.5Tb that did this same thing, about 4 hours after I installed it. Not surprising.
