well selecting the OS to use really depends on what u plan on doing. But winXP pro got my vote. :burn:

I'm guessing that the Windows OS will go into the rig in your sig. Seeing that is a power system w/ 768 of DDR I'd say go Win XP. You'll be happy. Windows XP Pro.

Win2K all the way: less bloat, and all the good stuff from the NT kernel.

I plan on going with 2000 Server on the next rig I do: same as 2K Pro, only a few more services as options and some more configurability. A lot more $$$ though.

I have a dual boot with 98SE and XP PRO. Some games won't run in XP so I can run them in 98SE. I love XP, its just the little features like how easy it is to backup the registery.

I had windows 95 all the way until Aug of 2001, then I came up on Windows 98SE, and Win2K within 3 weeks of each other. I set up a dual boot and here's what I run...

Win 98SE [still haven't used it]

Windows 2000 Pro [I love it]

Personally I would choose XP Pro, but if stability is the main issue, go 2k.

ok thanx guys...maybe 2000 is the way to go :) (I would wait on XP for a while anyway...drivers for some of my stuff arn't XP cpmplyant :()

I had both 2k and XP. IMO, the only thing so far that is better in XP is the new start menu setup. Also IMO, get just whatever you see cheapest pricewise. Well, with 2k there is no activation, so that is a plus when you reinstall windows and such.

I hate that new start menu, I set it back to 98 style :P

I would say 2k is my fav, no boatware like XP but just as stable, if not more, better compatilbility, better for gaming(only second to 98se),,, I could go all day... :P
but it depends on what ur guna be doin with it, If ur only guna be gaming and stuff I would say 98se, but if ur guna always leave it on, run servers, or work with really big files and d/l alot I would say 2k or XP.
Mostly depends on personal prefrence =)

I hate the "xp style" I have it set to regular windows style, but I kept the start menu, it keeps my desktop alittle cleaner.
