I have an ATA/66 card with a 8 gig hard drive
currently reading as drive f in windows 2000. The Cd-rom is d and the Dvd is e. How can i change it so the hard drive is D?

Go to Administrative Tools-->Computer Management-->Disk Administrator. You can change drive assignments there.

This is fine except sometimes some paths for programs get confused.

Ex: you install a game from cdrom drive E: it installs a shortcut on desktop. You go and change the drive letter for the CdRom and now when you click on the desktop Icon you get this meassage

The drive this short cut points to is no longer available or has moved.

This may or may not happen I just know that when you change drive letters programs that connected by way of a certain drive letter may have problems.
