View Full Version : Windows only networking select files.
So I'm trying to network my home computers so that I can watch the movies and TV shows on my laptop, on my desktop with the bigger monitor and good speakers. I've got all the computers in the same workgroup and everything, it all seems to be networked correctly. I share the folder called "SHARING" on my laptop (which is running Vista), and it can be seen by the desktop (running XP). The thing is, though, that when I browse to the folder with my Community episodes (amazing show, if you haven't seen it), I can only see the .avi files for episodes 3, 4, 8, 9, 12, 14 and 19. Why can't I see the other files? This problem isn't only with Community episodes either, it happens with other shows. Anyone know what the problem might be?

Were those files copied into the directory after sharing was set up?
Have you checked the ownership/permissions on the files that dont show?

I just checked Properties -> Security -> Group or Usernames, and apparently only some of the files have Guest access allowed. Is there a way to set up Guest access for all the files at once, rather than having to go through every single file and do it?

Yes, I think.
Instead of selecting the files select the directory. In the security tab at the bottom is the 'Advanced' button.
In the permissions tab there are two check boxes at the bottom, turn on the top and maybe the bottom as well, then use the add button just above to add the guest account.
That might do it.
