ok my aunt has cable high speed internet i think its 6mbps and lives about 55 to 60 yards from my computer room. i was wondering could i put a wireless router in her house and put a wireless adapter in my desktop (remember its about 60 yards away and thru two walls) and lets just say a 300mbps router and a 300mbps adapter, would that work or would i need something else and also what kind speed could i get if it would work??

thanks in advance!!!!!!!!!

If the walls of either building are steel-reinforced concrete, steel, or use aluminum siding, it's a no-go.

Otherwise, depending on the construction of the walls, a high-power antenna/receiver combination such as this one (http://www.amazon.com/802-11g-Wireless-Long-Rang-Network-Adapter/dp/B0035HCHD8) combined with a quality wireless router might be able to transmit reliably through walls and over the distance specified. You'll not, however, realize 300mb/s. 150mb/s will be the theoretical maximum in ideal circumstances; actual throughput will likely be far lower.

Were it me, I'd dig a shallow trench and run cat6 in a conduit between the two buildings...

A repeater would only help if it was positioned at a mid point. Since a repeater simply picks up the original signal and then re-transmits (repeats) it, it would only work if the original transmitter's signal could penetrate the walls around it.

Actually, I don't disagree with hafa's idea about digging a shallow trench and extending a cat 6 to your house and then from there you can run it into a wireless router, doesn't seem like a bad idea to me since you don't live far from her. And cat6 is quite inexpensive.

Here is what you do. Go to walmart or where ever and get a wireless router and hook that up to her computer. The antennae you will need to get off ebay and you can usually get them pretty cheap. It's a wusb54g adapter. Then while you are on ebay get a 15 ft usb extention cable so you can have plenty of wire to find just the right spot to put the adapter. Iv'e been using these little buggers for a few years and the range on them is real good. I can pick up signals 4 or 5 blocks away and the speeds are roadrunner fast. All in all it should only cost you about 30$ or so and the good thing. No digging up the lawn.
