View Full Version : Low-ish Budget Card

I'll admit it here and now: I've got almost no clue as to what I'm looking out for.

I'm looking for a card that'll let me run WoW (please, don't judge me!) at anything above 5 fps in populated areas at moderate - high settings as opposed to my current low settings. Seeing as I'm running on an integrated graphics card (if that's what you call it), anything is a bonus.

Intel Core2 Duo CPU
E4500 2.20 GHz
3GB of Ram
Intel G33/G31 Express Chipset Family - 128MB
Windows XP SP2

I'm hoping for something that lets me also play some Starcraft II once I get around to buying it and some classic Battlefield 2. Again, a decent frame rate at decent graphics settings.

Budget wise, I'm looking in the £60 range. £70 tops, £80 if it's really recommended. I don't see myself updating it for at least a year, but at the age of 17, there's only so much money I have!

If any more information is needed, please let me know.

Thanks!

Don't know if they ship to Europe but here is a nice card for only £50 after rebate.

I would recommend against that one. The DDR5 version of the GT240 is a decent enough card (I have one), but the DDR3 version is pretty weak.

For that sort of budget you can probably find a 9800GT, maybe even a GTS250 or HD4850 if you look for sales. If not, then the GT240 DDR5 or ATI 5670 would be my backup choice.

Thanks for the help so far.

One quick question: I've noticed that most cards have a difference in name. I think it's the people that make the card, but I could be entirely wrong. For example, ZOTAC GeForce 240 and POV GeForce GTS 250. Is this something to look out for when purchasing a card?

You should actually look at a ati 5670, 5750 or a 9800gtx, those cards play it with pretty high settings and the ati cards have direct x11.
