For those of you who haven't messed around with one of these things yet:

Buy one!

The 1.6A is truly a quality CPU for a good price. I have one now running Prime 95(final stability test) and it hasn't crashed in a couple of hours; the kicker?

It's running 148FSB! Although this is far from record-breaking, it certainly can't be sneered at! 2368MHz is good stuff, especially when it bases at a lowly 1600. Voltage is set to 1.60 in BIOS, although the board is apparently only delivering 1.55. I'll try a different PSU to find out if that's the problem later on. But .05v increase over default, and a 750+ MHz Yield? Yikes! How is Intel making money on this thing? lol.....

The setup is as follows (just the important parts, anyway):

Intel Pentium 4 1.6A (Northwood core, of course!) @ 2368
MSI 645 Pro motherboard - currently running '1.6v' core and 148FSB
Crucial 256MB PC2100 DDR - running at CL2, Fast mem timings, 2T command
PNY GeForce3 Ti200 (disappointing OC; only 5ns memory, card is good for a stable 220 Core/470 mem)
Stock Intel Heat sink and fan
300W Antec PSU
Netgear NIC/Ensoniq PCI128 sound

Anyway, I'll get to my point:
This was the easiest OC ever. Period. Out of the box, into the pretty red MSI board, straight up to 133FSB and way beyond. Barely a voltage increase to bolster stability. If you were mulling about whether or not to get one of these - do yourself a favor. Find your favorite retailer with one available, and BUY IT!!! Before Intel does something dumb like canceling production of the LSNs!

And a good day to you all! (I'm so happy!)
:D

Stock fan? Switch that with like a Swiftech and grab couple of 100's of mhz while you go! :D Excellent overclock Grat.

After i get used to my recently o\c rig (below)............
Then the 1.6A or 1.8A is going to be next.

What a the stock FSB speeds on a P4?

man excellent OC. does your p4 now outperform the athlonXP 2000? how much is a northwood at 1.6GHz? I know I can get an athlon XP 1600 for about $120

excellent o/c, rat, keep pushing it and I'm sure you'll reap even bigger rewards out of that chip. have you considered a vid-pin mod to squeeze some more bus speed out of her, or are you content w/ 2.37GHz?

Well, a little bad news....had to back it off to 147 FSB for a full total of 2352MHz....it crashed after about 5 hours of Prime95, but it appears fully stable at this speed. Still, nothing to be disappointed about here! Very nice.

I plan on reseating the heat sink on this CPU; it doesn't seem warm, but I just want to make sure. For some reason, this motherboard almost permanently reads the CPU temp at 49C....I have no idea why, even from a cold boot. Bad thermistor? Either way, I've heard of problems with this board's thermal diode anyway.

Hmm.....thoughts of Peltiers running through my head...mwahahaha! Yes...that would be.....excellent.....

Yeah, I had an old version of MBM and it kept giving me 50C constant temp! Got 5104 over the w/e and now it fluctuates. Ya lucky dog... I think I hit my temp. limit so I need a better HSF to go any further... Perhaps I'll back the memory down to 2T and see if I can squeeze anymore...

well, you were lucky... i've heard of someone who cannot reach 133 fsb @1,75v.

I have a P4 1.8A GHz, so i just want to know how much voltage i should use for speeds like 2.2 and 2.4 GHz?

You shouldn't go beyond 1.7 IMHO without a better than stock cooling. Watch the temps.

that was a very nice overcklock, congradulations

Mine is okay; middling for this CPU, actually. I've just never had a 750MHz overclock before, so I'm pretty happy with it.

If you wanna see some REAL overclocks, check out the database on the front page! People are getting 2.5 with these bad boys!
