View Full Version : Blackberry vs. the World?
Basically nation states want servers inside their boarders so they can have access to data of users inside the state. Since Blackberry information is encrypted, they want to intercept data at the packet level. What are your guy's thoughts on the matteR?

Any chance you have a link to verify this statement? The idea that every country wants to basically bypass the encryption on BlackBerry's just seems a little far fetched to me.

The idea is that a country cannot monitor data if the servers are offshore. Instead of banning the device and software, installing servers abroad would allow the foreign governments to monitor data within their own boarders. Big brother some would say, but we already have servers that monitor packets on invisible networks within networks.
Blackberries are popular because of their security, some governments hate allowing their people secrecy because of their paranoia, but you'll just turn the population against yourself if you want to be big brother.
The only time RiM's data should be snooped into is with a warrant.
Go to Saudi Arabia or an Arab country and then some back to the West. You would be totally thankful that you live in a country that protects its citizens from the government. Blackberry has a business model and if installing servers in Arab states makes them more money they will probably do it. Call it unethical but in the end, everything is really about money.
