View Full Version : Reversing!!!
Hi all, i thought by reversing the fan on my PCI slot system exhaust it would cool the CPu better. I though just reversing the polarity on the thing would do the jobn but it doesnt it does nothing at all. I put it back to normal and it was fine still. Is there something i should know???
oh, so many answers. First of all, most fans are polarity protected. The direction will not change if you switch the polarity. Second of all, the performance on a fan would not be as good if reversed because the fins are designed to push the maximum amount of air in one direction
Third, and most important, of all is that your slot fan is most likely a centrifugal fan. It blows air by spinning fast and sucking air to the outer edge of the fan through centripetal force. Switching the direction of spin will 100% NOT change the direction of air flow. It would most likely hinder air flow by quite a bit too.

I think Kristy is right. If you look at the slot fan closely you'll notice the direction of the blade. Changing the direction if the spin will most like make the fan not push any air at all.
Thanks guys i appreciate the help just took a closer look inside @ the fins and u r right:eek:
