I'm looking for a bit of advice here.
I have an older Alpha HSF and I want to know if it will cut it in use with a new Athlon XP I want to upgrade to. I'm not sure of the exact spec but it came with a ComputerNerd S370 Celeron kit about 2.5 years ago. It is pretty heavy, aluminium and has hexagonal cross-section spines sticking up from the base. I don't know what the fan is.
My question's are: Will it fit a Socket A? Will it fit on an Athlon XP in a socket A? Will it cool a standard clocked Athlon XP 1700 or so?
Hope someone can help here.
Cheers
Alex

sounds like the pal6xxx(forgotten the whole name) yes it should fit but some of the old alphas have small plastic/rubber feet. cut these off

Sounds like you have a PAL-6035. Sorry, this HSF isn't adequate for a Duron, much less an Athlon, even at stock(not OC'd).

It may work depending on what fan and case temperatures you have. I am using an old PAL 6035 with a 27cfm YS Tech fan on an XP 1600 and get temps from 40-48C. I plan on upgrading to a swiftech 462 though.

You people remember that Large SLOT 1 designed ALPHA heatsink with two fans on it ? I forgot the name but...
How about make that work on Socket-A? if possible?
