I've heard they exist but I'm unsure if I should purchase one or not.

Currently I have 1 modem and 1 router feeding internet to 1 desktop and 2 laptops.

Are these combos any good?

If so, which one out there is the right pick?

Thanks :)

I'm not sure what you are asking exactly. Are you looking for one that does both? Are you asking if your setup is ideal?

I'm running something similar to what you are running. The cable comes into the modem, which goes into ethernet and into my firewall. From there, it goes to the "internal" side of the firewall and out to a switch, including a wireless "router" (access point, doesn't actually route) and other computers.

Basically, if you are getting the speeds that you should, I don't really see a reason to drop the cash on new hardware.

Whether they are good or not us up to you to decide. Like everything else, it's possible that they could fail. If it does fail, you'll end up paying more to repair. They also might not have all of the features you are looking for. I would think they'd be more likely to overheat too.

On the other hand, they are easy to set up, take up less space and one less power outlet.

If you want opinions, then mine is that they are not good. I would rather have them separate. I have an entire set of shelves dedicated to storing computers (AKA "ghetto rack"), so the space is not an issue and I have no issues connecting them.

What about your current setup is causing you to consider purchasing such a device?
