Windows 7 home, 32bit, desktop PC.
Hardware tried, one PCI wireless network card, two USB network adapters.

Problem
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16839121008
Using the PCI card, when connecting the antenna the wireless network shows up for 1/2 second then disapears from the list of networks to connect to.

Using the USB adapters, a network never shows up.

The configuration software says there's no networks.

Other USB is an old Netgear WG111v2, it also shows no networks.

I've searched and searched and couldn't find a reason that networks disapear or never appear.

I know the network is fine because there's a laptop that's using it right next to the desktop...

Reinstalled drivers, rebooted, uninstall/reboot/reinstall/reboot, nada.

Please, someone out there tell me what could be doing this? It's driving me NUTZOOO:bang head:mad::argue::rain:

bah, tried those adapters in a windows 7 ultimate 64bit laptop and desktop, same thing, no networks listed (even though the built in wifi on the laptop shows 6 networks nearby when I turn it on) none when I disable the onboard wifi and try to use the usb wifi adapters

going to try sleeping, this problem is burning my brain though

i suggest using the drivers from the maker of the wifi chipset (atheros, broadcom, ralink, realtek etc) or the windows update drivers before you use the drivers supplied by the maker of the card and their crazy bloat ware.

just curious. did you try manually typing in the SSID of the network and security-key (if needed) to see if it would still work?

Tried the CD driver, with and without the configuration utility and also the latest driver from the maker's website.

Tried manually entering one wireless point's info, still wouldn't connect

what's bugging me is the built in wireless card lists 6 networks in range, 3 of them with 5 bars, but the USB adapters show none in the list...

At this point I'm thinking your install of win 7 is borked. Try sfc /scannow from a command prompt and make sure your updates are current.

Sorry, but that's not likely, I've tried them on 3 different machines running two different versions of windows 7...

Is the configuration software fighting with Windows wireless config? Try disabling the 3rd party config, or the windows wireless config? I'm not sure if this is a problem with Windows 7, but I've seen it happen with XP and Vista.

Found out what it was.... antivirus (Kaspersky in this case) installed a "NDIS 6 filter" on network adapters. Unchecking that filter in the wireless adapter properties allowed wireless networks to be seen and connected to.

Not sure how to fix the NDIS filter right now >.>

Since the adapter wasn't in the machine when the antivirus was installed, the filter doesn't work right for new network devices connected to the machine....
