Not sure what the issue is, but it's been around for a while. I have a problem where I pretty much can't even watch any YouTube content due to the video not loading. I can take my laptop to a public network (Starbucks, Paradise Bakery, etc) and it can load/play youtube videos with absolutely no issue.

Not even sure where to begin troubleshooting this issue. Other streaming content (netflix / various other non-youtube videos) have no issues, so it's confusing to me.

Any tips / suggestions on where I should start assessing the issue? I've upgraded my cable modem back in April but the problem was present both before and after. The only other thing I could think of is my router, would it make sense that the router would be causing this issue (it happens on both wired and wireless connections to the router).

I had an issue where I had to turn off the "enable acceleration" on youtube.

right click and disable it.

Not sure if this will help you or not

tried leaving it on and taking it off... made no difference to the issue either way.

I've got something similar going on, but it only happens when I choose the higher quality video streams. Happens on all machines, and it's annoying.

I'm on a 30Mbps down 3Mbps up, and everything else is solid.

Guess it's good ol' traffic shaping, but then again it's just a guess.

ya idk it's weird. it's -extremely- rare that i'm actually able to watch a youtube video while i'm at home. which is frustrating to say the least.

well the issue was something to do with the router. I went and picked up a Netgear WNR3500L today and flashed it to Tomato firmware. Runs like a charm, no issues downloading (in fact my speed increased quite a bit on some sites!) and YouTube works like a charm again!

I had a hunch for a while that it was the router (see OP), I should have just tried out a new one a while ago!

Maybe it's just an epic fail on the ISP's part?

i do dislike my ISP (cox), but who knows.

Now that i've switched my routers I can't see my unRAID server though, and i have no idea where to start troubleshooting this issue. *sigh*
