I recently aquired a Compaq Presario 1090ES notebook. It has good cooling for the processor that it has, so I would like to try to overclock it. As you already know, Compaq is ghetto and locks everything in the BIOS. I tried to take it apart so I could get the clock chip model number, but after removing, what seemed to be, all of the screws, the case still wouldnt come off. Does anyone here happen to know the clock chip numbers? Thanx in advance.

eh?

that little pannel right below the screen pops off. and there are more screws for the keyboard there. as for ocing it you could try softfsb. that is a program you use in windows to adjust the fsb

overclocking notebooks is *if i'm not mistaken* a big leap to make, as it is very hard to do (requires more work than oc'ing normal pcs since the components are locked), you have to take the whole computer apart, some soldering if i am not mistaken, etc. i'd say if you are really into the idea of doing this it is possible with fsb programs and good cooling, but i wouldn't recommend it because if something happens, the computer is gone, no questions asked. but hey, if you can figure anything out, let us know. (and add it to the cpu database on the oc.com front page ;))

I know the 12xx Compaq laptops built with the K6-2/3/+ have a couple of jumpers or dipswitches on the mobo, maybe yours has too

I broke it open, and there is no clock chip, there are some small dips with some tape on them. I dont really feel like experimenting with those...ill just leave it be and see what else I can do to make it faster...

Im not sure, it looked smaller than a 7, possibly a 5...I have to give it back soon, but ill open it again and try to take out the proc and see what kind of socket its in.
