I installed BD2k11 Total Security on a "clients" computer. An HP, celeron cpu, 1 gig of ram, and XP Media Center Edition for os.
He had installed Norton Security Scan, Mcafee Security something or other, and an expired version of BitD.
Of course I uninstalled all and used the cleanup tools to make sure all were gone.
Seeing he was "serious" about security, I installed BD TS because it was "free" amir for 2 yrs. of coverage.
Well the system was sluggish.
Opened up task manager>processes and noticed that an app called vsserv.exe was using quite a bit of resources. Up to 99% in some cases.
This was part of the BitDefender program.
Needless to say, un-installed BD, installed MSE and Malwarebytes. No more sluggishness.

So I would not recommend Bitdefender for a least this kind of system.

The newer Virus programs rely heavily on dual-core setup nowadays. For slow/sluggish systems, anything but Avira, Avast, and MSE will slow it down even further.

Hi OnDborder,

I am Raluca from BitDefender- and I would like to help you with your client's BitDefender- that is- if he want to give it another try:)

Can you please verify when exactly is vsserv impacting his CPU usage?( when it’s scanning, when it’s updating, surfing the web or using one particular application?). This way you can configure the BitDefender by changing its settings, so that you avoid unpleasant situations.
If he still wants to use BitDefender, please don’t hesitate to contact me, our support team or the bitdefender forum:

Best,

Raluca

He uninstalled it a month ago, as indicated clearly in his post. Since this was on a client system, he probably doesn't have access to "test" this out. The program flopped on that computer, simple as that.

I only see the post date (no dates specified in the post itself) which is just over one week (not a month) ago.

Lol. Join the club..

Anyway it's too late. The computer is gone.
The extreme cpu usage was noticed when I opened IE mostly. Which was the main use for his computer. It might have been the anti-phish.

If something like SpyBot S&D was installed that adds lots of rules to the allow/block lists for content in the browser... IE7/8 has a notoriously slow method for reading those lists.

No. I removed all the other "anti" stuff before installed the BD2k11.
I think just for "squirts and giggles" I might install on a more up to date machine to check the lag.
