Hey guys, I'm a father of 3 kids and school starts next week and it's that time of year to control the internet during the school week. I've got a Linksys WRT54GX router and the "Access Restriction" functions are horrible. The only way I can get them to work is if i select to Deny internet for 24 hours. When I try allowing internet for certain times it doesn't work and kills internet for all of us. I've tried updating the firmware a couple times but the router still performs the same way. Can anyone recommend a decent router that's not too expensive that has some decent control features?

I've got an SMC Networks router (SMC8014W-G).

You have to manually choose which domains/URLs to block but you can pick which days of the week and at what times they are blocked.

It also has IP exemptions so it doesn't lock everyone out.

DD-WRT (http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/index) might do & it is free, it has a lot of options.

Yep dd-wrt has the options. Everything I've used dd-wrt has worked flawlessly, whereas the stock linksys firmware didn't work at all. Here's a screenshot of the access restrictions page:

Thanks for the replies guys! I'll definitely give DD-WRT a try.

I just realized that my WRT54GX is not supported but I found a WRT54G in my pile 'ocrap in the basement and that router is supported so I'll get that one going.
