My coworker just built a system:
GIGABYTE GA-X58-UD5
Intel i7 930
6 x 2gig gskill 17600 ram
2 x nvidia 250 gts

We can't get the computer to post with the correct ram timing. And when we run the ram at the lowest setting, it will boot but he gets blue screens every now and then and memtest runs into a lot of errors. We pulled two of the sticks and loosened the timings even more and did not run into any errors on memtest. Not sure what else to try, he has an antec 850watt power supply, so I wouldn't think that is the issue.

Probably the RAM at too high of frequency! Please try another ratio.
(probably running at way too high of clock, example, DDR3 1333 running at 691 mhz instead of 666 mhz)

Whats the best way to go about testing this. Not sure if its ram or motherboard. I had heard it could be from bent pins on the motherboard, but we pulled the cpu and everything looked good

In order for you to be able to hit the default frequency of DDR3-2200 (1100MHz; 183 BCLK x 12 XMP profile, at 7-10-10-28 and 1.65V) w/ 12GB installed, you're going to need to increase QPI/VTT Voltage (Uncore) substantially from the default of 1.175V to ~1.55-1.58V, and IOH Voltage to ~1.40V.

Changed all the settings you mentioned and it won't post. Then I tried just changing the voltages, memtest runs with out errors but under cpu-z ram frequency shows 539mhz.

Before upping qpi and ioh voltage, the ram immediately got errors in memtest.

Been out of the game for a while, this is my first time messing with an i7. Any help would be appreciated

Use this BIOS template to list all of the settings you changed in order to boot at DDR3-2200 (disregard the settings in the template, and replace w/ your own), and either post a direct link to your specific RAM, or upload a pic. of CPU-Z open to the SPD and Memory tabs...
