do any members here run 470sli on air ?
i cannot afford to watercool them at the mo, but dont want to buy if this option of air cooling 2 470's is a dangerous option, if you know what i mean.
i have antec 1200 case so cooling is very good as it is
currently my 5870s are sat on top of each other idle at 31 and 33 in games they are at top 60's, what sort of temps would i be looking at with 2 470's on top of eachother ?

any help is very much appreciated

Just curious, but what do you need them for? You already have 5870CF...

I have two GTX 470 Superclocked+ from EVGA which include the backplate and highflow bracket, to reduce their temperatures so mine may be a bit lower. Right now there may be a driver issue (I just posted a thread about) that is causing the cards to not run correctly with dual monitors. Before SLI I got about 38C at around 45% fan speed while overclocked considerably ( and never rose above ~70C with my fan at 75% even at extended max load.)

After I SLI'd the temperature of the top card rose drastically, I had to put the fan speed all the way up to 75% just to keep my card under 55C @ Idle. BUT just tonight I found something very strange. When I plugged in one of my monitors twice, allowing drivers to read one of my monitors as two seperate ones, I was able to enable triple monitor support. As soon as I did this, my temperatures went back to how they were when I had just one GTX 470... and my performance has increased in every game I have tried out as of yet.

I haven't messed with the fan as I have JUST found this out and it is now 5:45AM, but my top card is now idling at 37C and bottom at 32C @ 65%Fan.

I'm guessing this is something that will be worked out in future drivers, but I am planning on getting a third monitor so I guess I won't have to worry about it... and besides it runs fine with 2 monitors... if i continue to let it think that there is three. xD

(this may be a problem with single monitor SLI set ups as well, I did not troubleshoot it yet as I just now found out that it wasn't normal).. Perhaps I should post this to the Nvidia devs? heh.

reason im asking this is because, im sick of ati powerplay issues and driver problems.
since 10.4 all the other drivers have caused nothing but trouble for my cards.
im thinking maybe its time to go green again.
im sure the 6xxx cards will still have the same issues that im having now

I have to say man, SLI is no better as for compatibility it's even worse. Countless hours are spent to get the perfect configs no matter if you are using SLI or Xfire. What version are you currently on?

im on 10.4, they are the best imo.
but powerplay is really getting to be a pain in the ass
clocks will downclock during trackmania and i have to reboot to fix ( randomly, not all the time )
i dont know wheather to sell up and just get 1 480 ?

This card has very good cooling and while already over clocked, will over clock even more. I'm actually thinking about getting a pair. I found them for $349 each.
