View Full Version : AMD Socket A, Four Socket Holes
I'm wondering if all the holes on each board has the same dimensions (I'm guessing yes, or else Swiftech and Alpha's wouldn't properly fit in all the motherboards without the right placement of holes).
Because I need to find a way of clamping down the water block. Reading Bender's post, he mentioned that a SECC2 pin will fit exactly in there, but I took off my heatsink the other night and tried to take my SECC2 cooler and put it in. Didn't work. Seems like width of it is too wide either position.
What are the dimensions then?
So if anyone can help, then heres a perfect time.
i dunno about excat size. but on my asus a7v-133 they seem bigger than the ones on the shuttles i have. not to metion the shuttles have little little eletronics all around the hole so i can't screw a nut all the way down

According to AMD specifications they are supposed to be the same, with clear zones and the like.
That doesn't mean that it is, though.
Well I got a PM from a friend and it should all be the same or at least the majority.

According to the AMD pdf files the holes are placed 2.602" X 1.423" on center, and are .158 diameter. This is how I made my block, I use the four holes. Using number 6 or 8 bolts will allow for any differences from motherboard to motherboard.
For the outside dimensions, I use 2" x 3" so that you don't run into any capacitors around the socket. If it's taller than 2" make sure to include the step cut like a heatsink has on it's bottom. (2mm deep)

My Giga_byte and Msi are the same "pattern"...
But after dong a lot of searching for Studs to fit the Giga, I found out the holes of the Msi are larger...
I found this to be true as well. Same pattern but different location and orientation. The orientation was or particular importance to me when building a custom water block. The pattern on the Shuttle is vertical and not horizontal.

My abit kg7 socket holes are huge! I had to get a peice of lexan and tap it so I could use my holes. When I had a 8kha+ it had small enough holes for the screws that I use that came with dangerden's maze-2.
If you can find them, shoulder washers help reduce those oversize holes to a more realistic opening. I don't know what Abit was thinking when they deviated from the AMD spec on the hole diameter.

I had to this as the 1/4 piping going all the way through the waterblock were a little on the large side.
Hey Yodums sorry for the confusion. The 4 holes on a slot celeron; well atleast the older ones were the same as the AMD 4 bolt pattern. I had a Maze2-1 on my celeron 333 without having to mod anything. I think the slot P3s and possibly the newer slot Celerons are different.
