1TB black drive on P5K WS and config as AHCI. when i turn the power on the mobo doesn't detect the drive but if i hit the reset button the drive boots fine. if i set the drive as IDE i have no problem with it. mobo BIOS was the latest one

what causes the problem?

Thanks

Is there any way you can try it on a friends rig?

Did you try another cable?
what is the timeout setting in bios for waiting for drives to power up/initialize?

try resetting your BIOS. See owner's manual to do this or just take out the battery for a few minutes

You could try to run in RAID mode which is AHCI, just w/ RAID support. You'll probably have to update the iastor drivers first, though.

check BIOS settings to see if your controller can be set to IDE or SATA mode.
