will i be able to shut down without exiting the text only version, can i just click on shut down and i saves for me or will it not? will it save the work already done? i have to run the text only b/c my comp is a p2-266, it barely ever goes into the screensaver.
:eh?: :burn:

Control-C (press and hold Control and press C at the same time)is the safest way to shut down the client. It sends the client process the SIGTERM signal, which safely closes the thread, etc. Most times you can get away without bothering to shut it down in this fashion, but hey it never hurts to be safe.

You may have some trouble getting the work in on time. I think that a p166 running 24/7 can just barely get work in before the deadline. It's worth a shot and it may be able to do it.

how long is the deadline?, is there a way to make stanford give me little proteins to fold?

The deadlines are different for each protein

Here's a thread with some info on the time limits and there is a link to follow.
http://forums.overclockers.ws/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=60604&highlight=time+limit
The projects on the page are numbered but the descriptions should be enough to say what the projects are.
I think the time limits range anywhere from 18 hours- 6days depending on the protein.

BTW Welcome to the team.
I think that the only way to really find out if it's possible is to try. Sometimes one system can do the work even when a slightly faster processor cannot due to some configurations.

I have a Pentium 200MMX system folding 24/7 (plays mp3's sometimes, too) and it completes a GNRA Hairpin within the 6 day time limit:
about 70 minutes per frame = 7000 minutes per WU = about 5 days per WU.
And GNRA's are about the longest, so BBA's etc fold faster.
It's worth a try, IMHO.
