Problems on the Farm

My Farm is down 1.5 ghz tonight!

I had to put together a gateway system for my bro-in-law ( my old dual PII 400), and while reconfiguring it and the one that had the case I needed, the other system quit working!

It's a TBird 1000, was @1400. Mobo kept saying CPU has a problem (dr led junk!) so I was pulling the hsf off and heard the dreaded CRUNCH! Chipped corner. ARGH!

Well, I tried it in the other TBird mobo and it still works! Its at default right now, but I'll try to get it up to speed again tomorrow.

So now, the TBird 900 (was @1096) is not running.
I tried it in the other mobo, switched everything out- not tough, just video, nic and ram, but no go. Looks like the mobo may have crapped out.:( I'm going to try the board again tomorrow: I've seen them decide not to work for a day or two before, but.....I'm not hopeful! Cross your fingers for me!

I deliver the other system Monday, so I figure I'll be down about 30 or so for the week, which really stinks!

With luck, the small pile of cash I've been waiting for should be here next week and I'll be able to get a "couple" of things.........
But until then, my farm is running at 3/4 speed.

i'm sorry to hear that, my friend!! heard u r having a couple of ur old rig coming online, thought our race will be heating up / more interesting. but i've never look down on u! who knows, as u said, u might pull (couple?) rabbit out from ur hat!!

:D :D HaHa! Good news for me: both machines are fully recovered.....and one is improved slightly:

Tbird 1000@1400 is up to full speed and stable after 18 hours or so, and a short while ago I finished resurrecting the 900@1096- except its at 1125 now, with a slightly higher fsb! Still not done checking stability on that one, but it looks strong so far.

I still will be losing the PII 400 duallie (he doesn't want to run Seti on a business machine- good thing he doesn't know I have it on the company laptop!).

BUT: I've got two more oldies that just need a few things, and they will add a few wu a week. Also have my BIG plans:D ......and a computer show next Sunday.

30+ wu a day, here I come!

I'm glad to hear that you're back up and running.

I hope there was no offence taken, I only intended a bit of levity.

I just got back from the local show with a new DURON 1200. I intended to pick up another XP1600 but they sold out and the XP1700's were almost twice as the DURON. We'll see how this thing works on an 8KHA+. I may still pick up another XP1600 in a week or two, and "retire both DURON 600's that I have.

Definitely no offence: the remark was taken in the nature it was intended!

One of the things I like best about OC Seti Team is that we are pretty competitive- in a good natured way!

I guess that I'm going to have to keep both of those "old faithful" DURON 600's (that'll each do 1100+ easily by the way), AND add another XP to the farm.

That should put me in the 32/35WU day range I guess.

I will still have a loooooong way to go to catch up to you guys with the healthy leads that you already have.

My Theory: No computer too old to run Seti! Of course, I'm not shooting for fastest average times!( not with a k6-2 running and a p166 on standby:p

well, i was also shooting for the low ave. CPU time, and that's why i haven't use any of my old rig (under 1GHz) to crunch. but look at here now! it's HOT !! and that's why i've just added my old PIII @ 733 into my "garden". and i have another PIII 500@720+ sitting under my desk collecting dust too. might gonna give it a little exercise too.....:D

but i really try to hold on for another rig as long as i can till the thoroughbred come out.....by what it seems like, it should hit 2-2.1GHz easily! under 2 1/2hrs per WU??....:D

just waiting for me guys....don't go too faaarrrrr..........;)

LandShark, buddy. The way you are going don't you think its time you admitted that you're past the "garden" stage and edited your sig? :D

I crunched for a LONG time with 2 K6-2 450s and a dual PII400, so my average times were up there! I don't think I could get under 8 hour wus until I catch TC- so I've given up on THAT one!

But you guys give me plenty of other Seti goals to shoot for!
