They say it was at the Comic Con... but I know it wasn't at the Comic Con in Chicago because all the had were Mafia II and Metroid: Other M.
I dunno... Dropping the already simplified four button control scheme to an even MORE simplified three button scheme seems... stupid.
Especially for their stated purpose in doing so. To "break down the wall of complicated controls".
Have they completely lost their minds? I mean... Capcom just made Street Fighter IV... so they MUST still know what a fighting game is...
...or maybe they don't?
Fortunately Marvel vs Capcom was always more of a combo fest than a purely technical... "pure" fighting game (a lot more "Killer Instinct" than "Street Fighter Alpha") so maybe they can make the new controls work.
We'll see.
But the OTHER thing I find troubling is the roster. (And the REASONS for the roster. Like they didn't include Nemesis from Resident Evil 3 because they were "concerned about their content rating"?!?!) It makes me think that this game is created by either a band of idiots or that the Capcom marketing team alone will be in charge of the game's programming.
I mean... Are they attempting to make a kid's game like Tatsunoko vs. Capcom?
That would be very sad. Because if they're just going to do that... why not make Tatsunoko vs. Capcom 2? Why drag Marvel vs Capcom's name through the mud?
Doesn't make any sense.
Besides that, I think it would be better to have another Marvel Superheroes or X-Men fighting game now that the movies are out and there are so many different characters.
(Speaking of the movies... Iron Man's not going to be in this game either. He was one of the damned STARS of Marvel vs. Capcom 2.)
And currently the roster only has twenty people.
Ten Marvel and Ten Capcom.
That... is WEAK.

Capcom no longer employs the team that made Street Fighter. The last game they made was Capcom Vs SNK 2, which was one of the best IMO (right next to Super Street Fighter II Turbo). Street Fighter always took skill, but theyve dumbed it down quite a bit over the last 10 years. It kind of makes sense from a business standpoint. Making it easier to play gives people a better chance against veterans. Somebody new to the game would put it down right away if they didnt know how to pull off all the moves and combos while getting beat down by a vet. The only thing this business tactic did was scare away the loyal Street Fighter followers.

what? sf4 is the most popular variant yet. And many of the old pros from the previous installments play it. Moves and combos are very very basic things to learn. At high level play its all about spacing, conditioning your opponent, and mind games. (Not saying that I am a good player, but I do try to learn.)
Capcom has yet to make a bad fighting game to my knowledge so I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and wait and see how MvC3 turns out, though I agree that the current roster is LAME!!! Also totally agree with all that was stated regarding TvC.

Well I gotta stop you there... Capcom has made a LOT of bad fighting cames.
TvC, then that Capcom Fight Colliseum nonsense, then there was Street Fighter 3D, then there was that Street Fighter: The Movie fighting game, then there were... a hell of a lot more! :p
It's true that Street Fighter IV brought a lot of the magic back... but simplifying the controls does NOT make sense from a business standpoint because Street Fighter IV sold like a billion copies and Tatsunoko vs Capcom TANKED. (Do you have any idea how cheaply you can get the deluxe edition WITH the controller?)

I'm not sure how well it will do. I guess it just depends on how the market for yet another fighting game is sitting. With so many new fighting games coming out the past 2 years.
SFIV, SSFIV, MvC3, Tekken6, MK4, etc, etc I wonder if it will get burnt out again like it did some years ago.

Quick bump, anyone been getting excited for it? I've been watching some videos/etc on gamespot and the game looks pretty fun. Apparently it is supposed to be a bit easier to pull off combos/specials (compared to SFIV) and the character list is pretty decent, sounds like a good time to play as Deadpool+Dante!

Been waiting for this since they announced it.

Got the game today, and I must say I'm having fun with it!
At first I thought the new 3 button (+ 1 dedicated launcher button) would over simplify things, but in the heat of the fight (which is really intense!) you don't even notice it...
After playing for a few hours it kind of felt natural... I guess seeing them still kick and what not made the transition easier haha.
My only fear of this game, is that when people get to good at it, you will pretty much be stunlocked into endless combos.. Combos that will take away at least half your health. There is a system where the stun inbetween combos lessens the more the player does it, as to prevent an endless combo, but you can still pull it off like 3 times or something (havnt done it myself but i'v seen videos online).
All in all, i'm enjoying it.. a little disappointed with how they left out some key characters for me, including guile and ken! But who knows, they will probably be available through some DLC later on.
I'm having fun playing online and against my friends.

I played through the 'arcade' mode briefly this afternoon. I need to find how to best setup my gamepad (I still have one of the SFIV fight pads).

Yea I really wanna get a fight pad. A friend of mine has a couple so i'm hoping I can buy one off of him.
The decent ones are so expensive (100+). Not something I would want to invest in if I wasnt planning to play competitively, or all the time.

This very much seems to be about learning all the longest combos and using them as soon as opponent makes one mistake. I've watched streams of it last night and you can actually do combos that kill a character from 90% HP.
Very flashy and nice effects, but gameplay-wise it is not really competitive.

played a demo of it at best buy.
I don't play fighting games aside from mortal kombat and smash brothers.
This game is smash brothers with capcom characters. I didn't have to know a thing about the game and in less than 2 minutes, i was pulling off combos that did 100% damage to a computer on the highest difficulty.

Unh-Hunh... Try playing against an actual human opponent who knows how to play the game.
It's insane to hear people talking about "Oh I beat the computer on the highest..." oh whatever.
You're only missing the entire point.
Go online and find match-ups between high level players. Then you'll see that you were playing a COMPLETELY different game than the one they're playing. (and now I don't have to post for another six months!)

I don't doubt it. The only game i really rock at (fighting games) is any variation of mortal kombat. I'd probably get whipped without laying a single hit on someone online in this Capcom vs. Marvel game.
However, I do like to get SOME challenge out of the AI, even if it is cheating/rubber-banding.

Only challenge to be found is online unless you're talking about one of the games that memorizes your patterns and learns to counter them like the virtua fighter and Tekken series.
Capcom games never upped their A.I.
But check this out for a glimpse of what a REAL game looks like:

Anyone tried the new 'shadow' mode? Apparently they added AI for the developers and some of the pros as an even higher difficulty. I won't be spending money on it though.

That should've just come with the regular GAME like it did with Tekken and Virtua Fighter.
Capcom is like way, waaaaaaaaay behind the times with stuff like that.
That said: I'm not paying for it either...

One thing that annoys me a lot is the terrible lobby system and joining multiplayer games.

What I do is go into single player arcade mode and then turn on player match or ranked match on.
It lets others challenge you while you play against the arcade.
Pretty much nonstop fighting, dont gotta wait in between each match

Yeah. The prices for that SUCK. Especially considering the characters are already on the disc...

Yeah, well CoD:MW2/et all all seem to be including maps on their discs as well that get 'turned on' via DLC later on as well.

i have this for PS3, been playing it a long time and i am a bit dissappointed with the controls on it, so used to how it was, i even practiced before i bought 3 on 1 and 2 on their correct systems, PSX and Dreamcast, no hold over emulated BS for me.
DC was a bit hard with the UFO controller though.
would like to play it online but i want to pound on some people i know before going random

I don't think there was a Marvel vs Capcom 1.
There's Xmen, Marvel Super Heroes, Xmen vs Street Fighter, Marvel Super Heroes vs Streetfighter, then Marvel vs Capcom 2.

You're exactly right: Marvel Super Heroes was the Marvel Only game. (And in my opinion the second best of the series after X-Men vs Street Fighter.)
