View Full Version : Xbox 360 - install games to USB HD?
Forgive me for being a cheapskate, but I only have a 20gb official 360 hard drive, but many ide/sata drives and ide/sata enclosures. What kind of performance drop could I expect games being read from a usb hard drive (or flash drive) compared to the official hard drive/dvd drive?
The 360 can only see a 16gig flash drive. And it has to be fast otherwise it will tell you it can't be used...
Pretty much 30MB/s or better.. My 8gig Adata 11MB/s was too slow for it... Had to use my Xporter XT and that did the trick...
I bought my 250gig off of Craigs list for $75. If you live in the states you should check that out.

If you take a look around Google you should be able to find out how to use a 250gb WD Scorpio laptop drives with your 360. Should save you about $100 or so.

Yeah, but that will require removing his 20 gig from the enclosure and finding out how to "bless" the new drive.. Yes he'll be saving money but voiding any warranty he may have...

A lot of money for 250gb - when you consider that a 1.5tb pc drive can be had for about the same amount. Regarding the 16gb limit - I heard that formatting the drive to HFS+ would remove that limit? (couldn't get it working, myself) And apparently the official drives are only fat32 - yet I can install games that are way over 4gb in size... I guess that it splits the disc image into multiple parts? :-/

Some forum, I didnt pay attention cause I dont need it atm, but you partition the hard drive into 16gb chunks and the xbox sees each one as removable memory.
