View Full Version : Quieting the Delta

I recently read the article written by Ed Chapel about how to quiet the delta fan on an Alpha 6035 heat sink. Anyways, I bought everything, except I cannot find anyone that sells the required 3mm x 30mm machine screws. It is not possible the clip the existing screws without wrecking the threads unfortunately. Does anyone have ideas or advice?

It's possible to cut screws to the desired length. There should be one retailer in your area that really has every dang screw, nut and bolt. If you buy the screw from them, they may be happy to grind it down to the required length. A pro can do this so well that you'd never know the screw was longer in the first place. The threads will work perfectly. Good luck. If you arrive at lunch time, complete with a nice sandwich for the person that can do the grinding--you get the picture.

This is the address of the article, and I do not think there is anyone remotely nearby who carries lots of screws, and there are no stores that grind down screws unfortunately : (

Okay, I read the article and it sound's quite interesting. My 6035 is supported by a 3.7W PAPST which isn't very quiet @12V, so I throttled down to 5V. I think I will try it ....

But instead of the silicon I want to try something, which is better to remove ...

What do think of pieces of foam material? Will this do the job? Just cut to the right size and fitted between fan and HS .....

here's what i would do. at www.hardcorecooling.com you can buy these large rubber grommets for around $2 for 4 of them. Get 4-8 and then put one on top of each screw, maybe with a dab of silicone or some other adhesive.

Also, do you know where I can get the type of screws required for this?

You can go to any supermarket and buy a package of Bausch and Lomb Temple hinge rings for .49 for 10 of them. They are basicly small rubber Grommets

I was talking about 3mm x 30mm microthreaded machine screws like the ones used by the ALpha 6045, only shorter.

A rheostat brings down the volts ... 12>7 or 5 , but well, so the flow's gone too ....

The try is to get the delta flow @silent mode ....
