Event Goals
Our ultimate goal as a team is to reach the Top20 in the Total Points Standings before the end of year. This event and the event goals will be instrumental in getting us there.
The Event Goals this year are three fourfold(lol is that even a word?):
1. To reach 150,000 in team RAC. ($50 Gift Certificate) Achieved/Unlocked!
2. To crunch 5,000,000 in total points. ($75 Gift Certificate) Achieved/Unlocked!
3. To beat UK BOINC Team to the Top20. ($75 Gift Certificate)
4. To reach the Top20 in total points. ($100 Gift Certificate)
As each of these goals are reached, the corresponding bonus prize will be unlocked and added to the prize pool! Yep, the goals are pretty lofty this year, but I'm hoping the turnout will be much bigger!
Contest FAQ
Q: What 3rd Party Service does this contest use?
A: random.org (http://www.random.org/)
Q: How will I know if my name was entered in the draw?
A: The draw will be Entrant Accessible. A link will be posted after the draw is made where the entrant can go to confirm that their identifier was entered into the draw and whether or not it won.
Q: How many draws will there be?
A: Only one draw is made. The number of winners drawn equals the number of prizes. These draws cost a fair amount of money and it gets more expensive the more entries there are. It's much less expensive to do a single draw than 6 or 7. The winners of the $100 and $75 prizes (if unlocked) will be whoever is drawn in the #1 and #2 spots.
Q: Why do you use RAC categories to determine number of entries?
A: So that those who can't crunch as much still have a decent chance at winning a prize, and so that those who crunch more are rewarded with more entries but not enough to completely run away with it. Think of it as a lottery, only with a lot fewer contestants. Those with more entries will technically have a better chance of winning one of the prizes, but at the end of the day the results will still be randomized.
Q: Will my RAC category be recorded at the start or the end of the contest?
A: At the end. People will not be able to bring 20K RAC worth of power on line at the beginning of the contest and collect entries at their initial <1000RAC category rate. I don't consider this to be in the spirit of the contest, or the project. We urge all contestants to have Rosetta running and RAC somewhat stabilized prior to the event start so that your RAC category properly reflects the amount of crunching you will be doing throughout the contest. But remember, at the end of the day this project and this contest are about helping science along. The more you crunch the more you help.

Yeah, it's a good chance to win a prize. Go grab yourself that new Heatsink or Waterblock you've been looking at. Or at least offset the cost significantly.

I'll have my 980x swapped over once i hit 1m in fah with it. Should be two or three days.
Might be able to hijack my dad's PhII 955 and brothers Ath64 4400+ x2 (939 yo!) and friend's PhII 810 x4. We'll see.
At the least it'll be 980x and my e5200 at around 3.2.
Should be something like 2500-3000RAC.
baditude_df
10-19-10, 11:57 PM
Should be more than that I'd think.
How far is the 980X going to be clocked?
Bobnova

Depends on what i do cooler wise, i've been running it at stock clocks undervolted to 1.056vcore so far. As things get colder i may turn it up for the space heater effect. It's a toasty little sucker, draws watts like @*#&$!
I'll be getting a new snazzy case soon, that'll help too.
If i can convince it to do 4ghzish without brutalizing my power bill or roasting, i'll do that :D
EDIT:
Never really thought I'd be running stuff at stock clocks. I blame the benching team, OCing on air just isn't the same anymore :P

Got the 980x going!
Running 11 threads at 3337mhz, this thing is an absolute monster. I love it!
If i run all 12 threads there are unacceptable system slowdowns.

That's going to net some serious RAC.
Looking at picking up an I7-950 @ Microcenter, for $229. IF the wife shows love.

Wound it up to 3458(@1.1vcore) for giggles.
It's looking like it might be as much as 5krac, it's going to take a while to stabilize though.
Once i settle on a OC i'll record my points at 24h intervals and see what it's up to :D

I got 5K+ out of my 950 with HT enabled. OC'd to 4.2GHz for ~2Wks. Mightabeen 4.4GHz, can't remember. I do know it got very hard to keep cool on air past 4.4GHz though.
I was within the Top15 CPU's in the world at that point. The 950 is an awesome processor for Rosie.

Ooooo that means i might be closer to 6krac, that'd be exciting! In theory this thing at 3450 is equal to a i7 quad at 5175....
In reality it's lower cause of ram bandwidth, but still!
Forgot to remove fah from startup and rebooted.
FAH showed up and seized the ram rosetta was using, and i got 0.00 second computation errors on ~700 one hour work units. The Rosetta server could have been happier.
I moved to linux and have been running that instead, bout to switch back to windows now and see if it'll let me fold again.

Well first of all i need to learn some proper ocing of the one i have or get some few more cores hehe ;-))
got my lowly little laptop working right now, will have to get the 920 out of the closet and together to get it rac-ing. I may not have my ppd worked out by the start of the contest. Anything we can do to be fair if I cant get it worked out prior? let me know.
I may switch the i7 950 over from folding also, watcha say to that.

I'm guessing a Conroe-L at 3.5 GHz would get you around 500 RAC. Mine at 3.2 GHz was a little under half the RAC of my stock e6600, iirc.
I almost gave up on the 950 changeover. couldnt get it to run on more than 1 core. went into advanced settings and now all is good. may still throw the 920 into the mix, and maybe even the i5 670.
how bad do we wanna step on team china? and maybe some in front of them even. we have the power to make this happen.
Hmmm.....as much as I've been bugging everyone else lately to fold for Team 32, I think it's only right that I sign up for this. I've got an idle OC'd CPU @ 4Ghz and a GPU I can throw at this (assuming rosetta does GPU, dunno?) for the contest.
Just goes to show, there is love among the distributed computing teams. :D

Absolutely! When Chimp Challenge or March Madness come around, I always urge our members to help out. Alot of them are Team32 and know about it b4 me anyway. Can't say as I've ever been invited to a SETI event, but I suppose I could try that out some day. :)

Yep, say the word and help will be on the way shortly after. This is what I have found at least.
And we've worked damn hard to get to 23rd place! In August 08 when I first started out, the team was stagnant in 109th place with something like 4 million points. The along came our old friend Adak to stir up the pot and now look at us!

OK -- I'll officially pull the SR-2 rig with 2xE5620s over as well. Some of my fellow Team 32 folders will be happy to hear my production is going to zero for FAH. ;)
Questions:
--> It doesn't seem like Rosetta takes advantage of GPU folding, correct?
--> Should I start all my gear crunching now, and just leave it going...or...just for a few days and then leave it off until Nov 1st?
--> Is there an HFM.net like application to view stats and such?

I haven't done distributed computing before due to being on a laptop.... But how far would a stock 3800 x2 (939) and a 9400 @3.2 go? I am not sure if I can handle my room any warmer...
Bobnova
10-26-10, 11:49 PM
3800x2 should make a few hundred RAC, worth doing IMO.
That SR2 rig is going to need three and a half boatloads of ram, most WUs are 260-300mb each, and you'll be running 16 of 'em!
No GPU client for rosetta sadly.
Any additional hardware to help would be appreciated...but...if you are having cooling issues with your room, then you may want to A) think twice ;) or B) invest in some fans? :p
I stopped folding on my 950 while on a 77000 points wu to get on this. I will prolly leave some on folding when this is done and prolly leave some on this asl well

As of now, there's a new contest goal: To beat UK BOINC Team to the Top20. If we do, I'm throwing another $75 prize into the pot. I'm gonna go put that on the board right now.
It won't be easy though, we still need ~1.7Mil to catch them and we only have 10K RAC advantage(for now ;) ). They need 92.47 days at their current rate to break the top 20, and we need 155.44 days at our current rate to pass them. We're going to have to close that gap and build a RAC of ~180-190K quick, which means we're REALLY going to have to turn it on!

Same here, I don't understand what that signifies (or stands for). I read the getting started thread (http://www.overclockers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=576016), and a few searches, but no luck.
Guess I'm looking for "RAC 101"?
baditude_df

Taken from the BOINC Wiki:
Recent average credit
To calculate the useful amount of work provided by a computer, a special calculation called Recent Average Credit (RAC) is used. This calculation is designed to estimate the number of credits a computer, user, and team will accumulate on an average day. Due to the many variables not taken into account including the inconsistency of host processing, time it takes to validate work units, discrepancies in benchmarks, and possible project down time, the RAC calculation proves to be only a guide. Additionally RAC is independent of computers, users, and teams, meaning they cannot be simply added up. RAC was originally meant to help scientists understand the computational power available to them and to increase competition among users by allowing even new users to quickly move up in rank based on RAC, which should directly reflect how fast work is being processed.
Taken from BOINC FAQ:
RAC stands for Recent Average Credit.
It's the average of credit you earned (your ID, your computer, your team) of the period of time, since you started earning credit. You can compare it to your car:
Credit is like the odometer. This rises every time you get credit granted.
RAC is like the speedometer. It rises and falls with recent and past credit grants.
When you quit running the project, your RAC for that project will decay every week by being divided in half.
Or this LINK (http://www.boinc-wiki.info/RAC) is the RAC section of the Unofficial BOINC Wiki and seems to have the most comprehensive coverage of the topic.
PS: I got all of this in ~5 minutes by typing "How is BOINC RAC Calculated" in to Google.:chair::santa:
And yes, it takes 2-3Wks for RAC to stabilize assuming you just let a PC run 24/7 and don't mess with it.
Cool, thank you
Edit: Logged in to see the RAC for the two rigs that are crunching. Not sure if this has leveled out yet or not.
(Also have no idea about what is a good/bad range for RAC. Yes, I'm a nub. :p)

That SR2 monster with a halfway decent OC (say, 3.5ghz) should get you something like 4000-6000 rac.
Lots, in any case!

All,
I see ALOT of new names beeing added to the Roster over on our team home page at R@h (presumably for the contest), but not all are signing up here on the forums.
For example: Today we have 3 new additions to the team: New members in last day Porter | Rizo-UK | 4GHz . Of those three only 4GHz has registered for the contest.
To all of those that haven't yet signed up, if you are reading this please go sign up using the proper format in order to be eligable for the prize draw at the end. You will need to be a registered forum member to do this, so please get that done first. Thank you.
Oh I forgot about the prizes. I was just helping out a fellow DC team. :D

We appreciate that Jmtryra. :)
But you know how it is when contests come about. All kinds of people (alot of them not even forum members) come out of the woodwork when there are prizes to be had. Don't get me wrong, this is what we want, but you know it's no coincidence all these new people just show up. It would be a shame if they put in a whole month of folding without knowing they had to sign up first to be eligible.

That should still be a kilorac or two. My e5200@3200ish is putting down 908 and climbing.
If I can get my grubby hands on a pair of "affordable" hex Xeons then I'll have another SR-2 rig to throw at it. Might not be before the contest ends though, depending on the financial front. ;)

Wait, another!? :comp:
Yup! It's my evil plan to overtake sfu. He's running about ~20 rigs for ~400k ppd, for about ~20k ppd per rig. Even with cheapie E5620s I can pull ~70k ppd w/a non-maxed OC and probably ~80k ppd at max OC. So, I'm thinking about 6 or 7 SR-2 boards should do it...half that if I get my hands on some hex cores. Maybe I can just go rob a bank or something...
;)
It's not *if* I overtake him, it's *when* I do.

I was recently over at the UK BOINC Team fourms and there is absolutely no word about us or switching rigs over from one of the many other projects this team is involved in, but I doubt it's a coincidence that they started climbing at the exact same time we did. And not only that, but they seem to be climbing at the same rate as well. There are a few things that are obvious though:
1. They haven't added any team members, so that means their members are definitely rig switching, and
2. A team that size has a boat load of resources to draw from.
We're really gonna have to turn it on beat them to 20th place!

They also have 15 guys that are producing over 1k RAC.
The top 3 guys on their team are the only ones producing over 3k in Rac.
I'm going to need to get more cores damn it.

Ran into the same thing with my Q6600 last week.

Also I unchecked the Leave in RAM option. Seemed to keep things nice and happy, But perhaps someone that's been doing this more can verify settings.

Currently we have 25 registered contestants, including neonblingbling who signed up today. Everyone is entered in to an excel spreadsheet that I designed to calculate number of entries at the end of the contest based on RAC category. From there, the list is converted to a word document which is then loaded into the draw form at random.org.
As for the issues with everyone's WU's, if your RAC keeps climbing, just let your machines go and don't bother watching anything other than your RAC on the Team Homepage (http://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/team_members.php?teamid=230&offset=0&sort_by=expavg_credit). Rosetta does as Rosetta does, and sometimes it doesn't make alot of sense, but typically the WU's will finish one way or another.
As far as settings go, I keep my work buffer at 5 days, "while CPU in use", and 100% of CPU (which I think is default), and that's it. During summer months I only run between 1AM and 1PM due to the heat in my condo, but now that it's winter time it's 24/7.
There should be no other issues unless you have a totally unstable overclock which I doubt.

Yeah, I was at ~490 RAC when my Rosetta was only crunching during the night. Since I've changed back to 24/7 I'm up over 500 and rising with this old E8200. We'll see where it tops out.
Like I was mentioning to the guys earlier in this thread though, my old i7-950 @4.4GHz would put out 5K+ RAC if I left my PC alone, and the room remained cool enough. All of you guys with OC'd i7 quads(3.6-4GHz) should be expecting a minimum of 3.5K RAC out of each machine.

My second PC with i5 seems to have stabilized workload, and RAC is still climbing. I averaged over 200 credit per day last I checked.
My main is a bit iffy. I thought I had it all going, but then this morning BOINC had quit somehow. I had to restart BOINC to get it running so my credit will start a bit low, below 140 last I checked.
I've already done a total of 4400 for rosetta

You're pushing the limit. Time to get an extra outlet on separate circuit installed so you don't melt something or blow breakers out just by turning on light.
If your wiring is rather old (like 40 or 50 years old), it can get warm and fail without hitting the max 15A (about 1800W).

I hear you... I don't normally run everything off of one plug  it was just a quick test. Right now the rigs are split over 3 different wall outlets and I'm looking into offloading some them onto another circuit breaker. Well, here we are on the eve of the contest! Already since the 15th we have grown an astounding 41,567 in RAC, and crunched 1,933,942 points. We'll definitely be goin full tilt boogie when the contest starts, and the sweetness is we're not even near done growing.

I've currently got six cores going, and I'm hoping to get two more by the end of the week. It depends on how the weather turns out here. I'm not allowed to run three rigs and the AC (house rules). I can, however, run an extra rig when the temp is low. Keeps the gas bill from being as high.

I believe I've leveled out.....
Your RAC will grow, I have a feeling that my psu on the q6600 is going bad.
If I lose that rig I'll have to make an emergency run to Microcenter and grab another.
I just hope I can maintain my current RAC, I've increased my OC on the 9550 however the memory seems a tad wonky but it's holding up.

I found my xig1283 (installed in another case... durrrr) and slapped my parts into my snazzy new ironclad case (huge!), the result? 1.1vcore 3.6ghz 980x full rosetta load temp is down a touch, at 50*c on the hottest core.
Zomg!
My RAC will be going up further :D
Also, go team!
that is very nice bobnova, hard to believe 3.6 and only 50c temps at load. wish mine would do that. my 950 is at 1.31@4140mhz and will run to the high 70's. the 920 will do more than the 3800 that it is at right now but cant manage the heat
muddocktor
11-03-10, 09:45 AM
dejo, when I come up for the benching party I will be bringing several heatsinks with me and you can try some of them out on that 920 and see if they cool better than what you have. I think that at least some of them will cool better than that at that speed.;)
Bobnova
11-03-10, 10:14 AM
Alignment of the cooler is key, the 980x is a long strung out thing. If i align it blowing towards the rear all six cores sit under one heatpipe and it gets kinda warm.
If it aim it upwards the cores are spread across all three heatpipes and the temps are low.
Admittedly, 32nm helps.
Turned out i was at 3450 cause overdrive doesn't save settings into bios like ROG-Connect does. Now i'm at 1.15core 3656 and 55-59*c, temps ramp up fast with vcore.
Haven't had a chance to do any tuning on it.
Your 920 sounds like my old one, didn't take much vcore but zomg the heat!
thanks mudd, but I think it is just one of those chips that make heat. its an early 09 do core. when cold it will clock like few others. but would like to see what kinda cooling works with it.
muddocktor
11-03-10, 12:16 PM
And we can always throw The Beast on a heatsink and see what the temps look like too. I promise that The Beast will cure heat problems. But I bet you can't live with the noise for more than benching usage. :D
@Bob, my 980X isn't too bad on heat and actually seems it might be easier to control the heat on it compared to my 930 with both at 4.0. When I left the house, I had the 930 clocked at 4.0 and under a NH-D14 and crunching temps were running in the low 70's on the hottest core. Of course for now I just have it stuck in an old, kinda small case too which is probably affecting temps somewhat. I have a rebuild project coming up soon for my main rig, which involves swapping the 980X and the P6X58 board into my main rig and giving my QX9650 setup to my daughter.
my 950 is running at 4140 with the mega on it and will usually stay in the upper 70's. When the wife manages to turn the ac off it will see small 80's

My 950 took 1.264v for a 24/7 crunching and folding stable 4GHz, so that sounds about right. It stayed high 60's with my TRUE and Mega and a Denki 1011 cranked to 12v and 20-22deg ambients.

The water kept it a bit cooler: http://www.overclockers.com/forums/showpost.php?p=6387928&postcount=56
the temps on the 950 are livable and she is still climbing in rac, so I am happy. just blipped 7000 rac total.

Is it just me, or did our Team RAC just drop over 2K today?
134,212.00 yesterday and 131,927 today.
I noticed my machine's RAC took a 30 point dive last night for no apparent reason, but wtf?
check your pending queue. I have almost 7k sitting waiting for pass through. been that way all day. you will get a few points but most are just sitting doing nothing. check it and report back if yours is the same

I noticed my e5200 was down on RAC last night, despite going 24/7 for weeks now.
It's back up this morning, i suspect something got borked somewhere.
My 980x RAC stalled too, it didn't drop but it didn't gain as much as it should have.
(Admittedly, it was running IBT for a couple hours instead of rosetta, but the 4ghz instead of 3450 should have eaten that up pretty quick.
EDIT:
My 980x queue was huge this morning, there's that too.
2.EDIT:
3,321.56 pending credit, which will turn into 4k or so as my boxes under-claim the credit.
Part of that is my fault. The SR-2 was down for about 6hrs. :(
I have over 100 wu's in pending queue
Maybe we overloaded their server, just like FAH?!?

Well something is up with the credit reporting. If you'll notice, UK BOINC Team is down ~2K in team rac as well.
Also, what the hell is a pending que? Do you mean your CPU Tasks Listing (http://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/results.php?hostid=1270064)?
Or just how many results haven't been sent back to the results server in BOINC Manager?
Temporary glitch. We'll be back on track in no time.
Funny that there's nothing on the message boards about this though.

My boinc average is 12,500 but I have been putting in 15,000 to 17,500 per day, not sure what that should average out to. but my rac should go up a bit yet I would think

YEah, that's just Rosie. If you have a look here (http://www.allprojectstats.com/showuser.php?projekt=7&id=399099), there's some days you got no credit and some where you get 50K. That part I can't see any rhyme or reason to, but typically the awarded credit per day is higher than the RAC. Take a look at the Teams recent RAC history here (http://www.allprojectstats.com/showteam.php?projekt=7&id=230). It's pretty much all over the place.

Oh well. I still like the points setup better then fah :P
pretty neat to see the stats. I have been having tons of issues with the i5 cpu's one wont stay working and let the cpu usage drop to like 3% and the other is now working with only 3 cores, not sure why it doesnt go ahead and work the 4th is beyond me. makes me not want to risk my hardware for nothing
I have 9000 points sitting and pending. and I reloaded the client on the I5 running at 4450 and it wont get any work. I have to go out of town in just a bit. If its not sorted out by the time I get back tomorrow I will prolly shut down some of my clients as it just doesnt seem right for me to risk my hardware and use my electricity if Berkeley cant get their heads out. I feel the same about folding with them optimizing for nvidia and not ati. Will prolly just save the electricity and call it a day

I wouldn't worry about the pending credit. You have a very healthy RAC going and it's getting better every day. Unless you have a direct comparison with another rig that's been running Rosetta for a long time, I don't think there's any cause for alarm.

My Rosetta does this all the time. I'll look down at my Realtemp and see idle temperatures, and a few minutes later it will be crunching again. Next time this happens, have a look at the activity log and see what activities this correlates to. ie: Switching priority on WU's, uploading etc.

This I cannot help you with, but your RAC does not seem to have decreased significantly but is kind of levelling off and slightly decreasing over the last few days according to BOINC Stats.
Not sure how long all these machines have been crunching, but I always give a month for each machine before I decide how it's doing with Rosetta.
In other news, we're back up to 130K RAC while UK BOINC Team continues to drop and currently sits at 117K.

Got another set of 12 units, so i'm off and running again. It's not filling the work buffer though.
It'll figure it out, i'll take this opportunity to crank the OC some more and not risk killing a day+ of WUs :P
baditude_df
11-05-10, 04:43 PM
When I had my i7 running Rosetta and had my work buffer set to 10 days, it would fill 10-12 pages of WU's. Now with the 775 Penryn my 10day buffer sits at ~2pages which is to be expected as there are only 1/4 the cores crunching. Sometimes the work buffer can really take a while to fill though I've found.

Aha, rosetta servers are shut down for maintence according to my client. They must have noticed something was borked.
I'm going to increase my buffer for this reason, i had it short for testing the new OC as i didn't want to turn in 700 crashed units again (that sucked).
EDIT:
They disabled everything but the web server:

Whatever happened it would be the shortest server failure in Rosetta history, since I started anyway. Where did you notice this? When I looked a few hours ago all the feeders were fine. And now that I look back they are still all fine.
The last thing I would do after a server failure though, is have our work buffers set to 10. The work servers just get overloaded and it takes forever to get back up to a decent amount of work. Of course all teams have to follow suit for this to have any effect, but all we can do is raise awareness within our teams and hope for the best.
In other news however, it looks like we are back on track:

It's not *if* I overtake him, it's *when* I do.

I thought my rac would show a drop because my router at the house decided to act up and quit routing, but I was able to talk my daughter through some basic troubleshooting steps on the phone and the farm is back to reporting and getting work again. I was kind of worried that the dsl modem was trying to pack it in while I was at work, but the router just needed a reboot. And my rac is still climbing too and looks like it will stabilize around 13-15k with the systems I have online.

sfu, you just stepped way up and beyond, most appreciated. if you will hover your mouse over the B in the lower left of the roinc client, it will open a list, the top one is rosetta@home click that and you will go to a page and can hit the menu tab of your account. your rac will start off slowly and then start climbing. from my research you will gain rac through the first week at half pace of what it should be as the math dictates 2 weeks results. you are well on your way to making this team very reputable. in 2 weeks you will sit at the top of the leaderboard in RAC. thanks again

I dunno the specs of those rigs, but the rosetta WUs are very large. If you have a lot of cores running individual WUs, they may not all fit into the memory allotted to them. I remember Jmtyra was running 16 threads at a time and filling up the memory allotted by BOINC. See post 39 of this thread (http://www.overclockers.com/forums/showpost.php?p=6653383&postcount=39).

Any idea what your memory usage percent is set to in BOINC. If I remember correctly, the default setting is well below %100.
To check it go to the advanced button in the top bar and hit preferences and look under your disk and memory usage tab.
Also, I have encountered a bug running SETI on a CUDA capable rig before where BOINC misidentifies a CPU core as a GPU core the first time it runs and doesn't use it for some reason. Restarting BOINC always fixed that one for me though.

1: UPS got dumb (http://www.overclockers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=659111) and tried to deliver one part in Arizona instead of Michigan. That delayed the part until today
2: I have IDE to SATAadapter board to use my older IDE VD drive on my mobo that only has SATA. Oops, I gave away all of the IDE drives I had to local charity shop. :bang head: so no DVD drive at all
3: my mobo does not support booting from USB so that's out.
The new PC did boot up to BIOS without any problem but it reported CPU was hitting 105C  Checked and reseated (after letting it cool) and it's still overheating. Since the heat sink do get very hot I'm pretty sure it is seated properly just constrained due to small case size. Fan is working at at max RPM.
4: had to order a new heat sink that will fit the case and hopefully do better than stock Intel heat sink.

Hey sfu...
I enjoyed seeing the photo of your "crunching farm"!
Lol, Almost 24K RAC. What do you have, Chopped Liver?
Holy hell....
I think that we might overtake UK at this rate....
Well, I hope so! One thing's for sure though, the first Goal has been acheived and the associated prize unlocked!

Hey I'm still down in the minor leagues...
Well I also traded away one of my Lynnfields today so my RAC is going to drop but hopefully I can pick up another Bloomfield before too long. :(
the mythical "urban RAC ranch" seems to be appearing more frequently these days. Pol and sfu seem to have captured one of these beasts.
I am just hoping to break 10,000 rac before sfu blows by and knocks my doors off on his way to the stratosphere. I bet I dont even get to see what color car he is in on his way by. nice production there in a very short period of time.

Our nemesis UK BOINC Team is still on the rise, but no longer keeping pace.
At our current rate we'll need 50.7 days to crunch the 7.47 million points required to overtake the current 20th place team Housing and Food Services. However, we'll need 57 days to pass UK team and reach our goals, which means at our current rate those limey ******** are going to beat us there!!! The good news is that we just got a big boost and are still skyrocketing, but we will need roughly 250K RAC to pull this whole thing off by the time the contest ends. Do we have it in us? Time will tell.
Well done everybody! Couldn't have asked for a better squad this year!
SFU challenge update + I need some assistance please...
Edit: All is good -- SFU has it taken care of. I was freaking out for no reason. :D
So, the board is en route! It got dropped off today. FedEx #729437515000146.
BUT! I cannot find any IDE cables...think I tossed all of mine prior to my recent move. :(
Can someone please volunteer an IDE cable and ship it off to SFU? PM me, and I'll send you the address.
If no-one has one, no biggie, I can order one online. Just hate to have to go that route. :(
Let me know, and happy crunching everyone! :D

I remember 'thick wire' ones from opticals, and 'thin wires' from hard drives (HP pulls). Is there a difference in IDE cables?
I had some for sale a while back; they didn't sell. I'll have to take a look where they are though.
All good man -- sfu has it covered. I was getting excited for no reason.

Well, mine is 6303, so i'm going to say... yes!
Especially considering that you've only been at it for a few days. After two weeks you'll probably be in the 25-30k range.
Oh ya that'll just continue to go up. Think it takes about a week-ish to stabilize.
159,000 RAC now booyeah!
So i'm looking at my results...
why is my granted credit continuously showing about 20 points lower than my claimed credit?
mine are just now starting to stablize after almost 2 weeks. nice work sfu.
everyone notice that sfu has put 4 more i7 930s working for us for a total of 16. I say 40k easy after his numbers settle in.

Granted credit is based on the amount of useful folding actually done, while claimed credit is based on the number of seconds of computation.
Each computer has a multiplier attached to it, over time it will adjust and get the claimed credit synched with granted credit.
That, at least, is what i've been able to figure out looking at things. It may be wildly incorrect.
Every once in a while you hit a jackpot and get three or four times your claimed credit because you did something really useful.
Other times you didn't come up with anything at all and get very little credit.
I have 2 multis that are around 2.8 and still usually get less credit than claimed. The points are supposedly use an equation of (whetstone +drystone) cpu time /72800. or something like that. I have more whet and drystone than most but am getting killed in rac per pc.

The number should be 19. I have one more to switch over as soon it finishes its last Big Adv WU tonight bringing me to 20.

And I was getting all kiddy over just hitting 4k rac.
I need a raise.
Baditude, what's our status now?
Edit: Went ahead and swapped the 8GB for the 4GB on the SR-2. Doesn't matter now that SFU/superman is here, but I figure it'll help a little. :)

That's 8,879 RAC and 269,123 Points in one day! Good Lord!
At current rates:
Time to overtake Housing and Food Services for 20th Place: 45.26 days.
Time to overtake UK BOINC Team: 45.12 days!
We've managed to turn the tables and we're on track to beat our nemisis to 20th place!
Now we just have to do it in 21 days or less!
Awesome, thanks Baditude for the update.
Looks like we're kicin' arse and taking names! :D
/cheer
were those current rates calculated using our RAC or the number of points we got in 1 day? Cause if we manage that many points every day and you based those calculations off of our current RAC... i think we just might pull it off.

You can only add and subtract on any given time on any given day to see what your increase was. That's what I did. My updates also don't coincide with when the credit servers or reporting on the Rosetta site is updated, so it's all estimation.
However, all of the current rate overtake times are taken from BOINCStats, and use whatever they have as the current RAC and Points at the time.
The most anyone can really hope to do when giving updates on a Rosetta Contest is be as close as possible. Things just change way to fast for any one update to mean anyhting for more than a few hours anyway. Once things level off, that's a different story, but for now it's all estimation and rough ideas.
all I know is that as long as sfu is spanking 20 box's for us, our RAC will rise for the next couple weeks. by then his production should speak for itself. would figure he will be in the top few in the world on said production, with the rest of the team putting in a pretty good showing of force. for our numbers we are doing very well

Almost 70k total under my name. And my RAC is still climbing.
Considering someone added a huge farm er ranch to this, it will take a bit but the team RAC should jump real big in the coming week.
we are now in 4th for average rac, and will still climb and should be in 3rd shortly. I figure we will hit 200,000 rac sometime next week. But sadly I will have to tear some of my boxes down for a benching party that is going on and will have to prep boards for it. When done I plan to get them crunching again but will prolly be down for 5-6 days.

I got my new PC online now. It'd be a bit slow because of heat issue, Intel CPU would keep throttling down to keep under 100C, due to dumb mistake Zotac made. :/ Zotac board sets Vcore of Lynnfield CPU to 1.45v and only allows -0.100 v decrease so it's still overvolted by quite a bit.
But still, another CPU can add maybe 2000 or so daily credit to my total.
my little peanut garden (wanna be farm) is still climbing slowly, and am up to 11350 rac

We don't have a big team and we don't have a lot of active crunchers, but the ones we have do kick ass. ;) The same goes for the help we get for these contests. There aren't a whole lot of non team members signed up, but the ones that did decide to stop by to give us a hand are really showing us how it's done! It's much appreciated that's for sure.
